Fat Free Yogurt Addiction

Hi everyone,

I need some help with a little problem. I started off doing the Dukan diet, on a whim, after realising I had gotten quite chubby since being diagnosed with a chronic health condition and being unable to exercise.

Prior to my illness, I wasn't really into sweet things, but have since been put on some medications that seem to have awakened a sugar crazed lunatic inside of me.

On the Dukan Diet, the rules are that you eat protein only for a few days, then protein and veg for a fews weeks/months before reintroducing fruit and other things. You are also allowed to eat 'as much as you like' of all the protein, and that includes fat free Greek yogurt with sweetener.

I took this eat as much as you like thing a bit too far, I think. Because of this insatiable medication-fuelled lust for sweet things, all I have pretty much eaten for the past 2 weeks is yogurt. I did try eating some carb free noodles with tomatoes, and some fish and chicken and turkey. I also ate some fruit. Deciding this diet was too restrictive and not healthy, I switched to slimming world. The problem is on swimming world you can eat 'as much as you like' of yogurt too.

Do you think this will prevent me from losing weight? Will this cause problems for me? How do I stop the yogurt fiend from consuming me? And are there any tips for people who have massive sugar cravings due to medication?

I get very confused with all this 'eat as much as you like' in so many diets - how can that possibly work!? That's why I joined here too, to keep track of my calorie intake. It's between 1200-1600 per day. I can't exercise much because of my health, but have done a few sessions on the cross trainer and some sit ups/push ups etc when I can. Have lost 4 pounds in the past 3 weeks.

Any advice would be very welcome!

    you must have misunderstood. it isnt "eat as much as you like"...it is "eat whatever you like whenever you like"
  • what about eating berries and fruits, natural sugar instead of what they put in the yogourt. Buy plain and add your own fruits.

    Calorie deficit=weight loss

    Due to an unnamed chronic medical condition and the wacky approach to intake, it seems inappropriate for any further advice.

    Why not just eat what you like at a calorie deficit? There is no magic in that diet plan.

    I love Greek yogurt and I eat it every single day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.

    I actually prefer fat joghurt, not the fat reduced, as they have more sugar, and to be honest, when I eat a fat reduced, I am hungry again after 10 minutes, but if I eat a full fat one, it get sme through to the next meal. So even though more calories, it actually doea something for me. Just make it fit into your diet. And please, not all you cn eat lol

    I do make sure I am eating no more than 1600 cals a day and normally about 1200. So I am eating at a calorie deficit, but the problem is I just want to eat yogurt and nothing else, so I am wondering if that will cause problems, just eating one thing? I get such huge cravings for it, and all other types of foods, the idea of them makes me feel kind of sick at the moment. It's really strange. I take vitamin tablets so hope that will help with getting other nutrients.

    And honestly, these diets do say eat as much as you like of these certain foods - as much as you like until you are full. That's what they say! I guess a lot of people find that it works though, but for me it's kicked off this strange yogurt addiction.

    I eat the fat free natural greek yogurts, so they don't have any extra sugar in or flavourings.

    I'm curious as to why you are doing a diet that restricts types of foods rather than portion control. You will not lose weight faster than if you just cut back on the foods you already like and eat.

    Why would you want to eat nothing but yogurt? Why not variety?

    I'm just curious. :smile:

    Well I had never been on a diet before, so when I decided to do one, I asked someone at work who had lost a lot of weight recently, and she said she had done this Dukan Diet, so I signed up for it on a whim. I was so eager to get started and she'd been successful with it. And as I said before, these meds I'm on have given me this huge craving for sweet things (I never had a sweet tooth before), and on this diet the only sweet thing you were allowed was fat free yogurt with your own sweetener added to it, so that's what I started eating most of.

    Now I have read more about dieting, I see that this whole restricting certain types of food seems a bit silly - I guess it's a way of tricking people into eating less calories by getting them to eat filling, low calorie foods. So I agree it is better to just restrict calories and not food types.

    But the couple of weeks on this Dukan diet along with my meds seem to have given me a weird yogurt addiction. I literally have no cravings for any other type of food, only sweet stuff that requires little chewing. It's really annoying, all other types of food make me feel a bit sick. It's not that I've decided to just eat yogurt - it's like my brain wiring has gone wrong and yogurt is all I can face eating!

    Maybe I will try and force myself to eat some other things today and see if that breaks the yogurt spell. I can go to the supermarket and tell them to never serve me yogurt again, even if I beg for it :smile:
