For those of you that get your hair colored (meaning by a salon) how often do you do it?
My natural color is a dirty brown with red huesin it, but i've been coloring it a dark brown/red (not purple) actually I think it's Red Copper 5 don't remember the brand, and now i'm gonna stick some highlights in it. I used to do it myself, but my hair was falling out. So I went to my stylist and she started coloring it, and it started growing again yay!
My question lies in the fact that now I'm going every 4 weeks, and at 70 bucks a pop. Ugh. I'd go longer but I have a lot of gray, and when my hair grows the natural color is pretty obvious where i split my hair.
What do you guys do? Suggestions?

I've recently started getting greys too. Hate it, but having the ombre look is pretty easy maintenance. Your co!orist can touch up roots only instead of full color every 6-8 weeks kwim?0

I do my own. It costs less than $10. Feria is a good one to try. It does well covering gray, and you would want to do it about every 6 weeks or so.0

Yes, the ombre look can be really youthful and sexy. But reds are tough...they fade faster than other colors. I think this is why women of a certain age all start to frost their hair so it blends. They all look the same!0

So I dont understand....are you going to a stylist for the red all-over color, now? Or highlights?....Or both? If both, what color are your highlights?0

I do my own as well.
First, I went to a salon for help choosing color and got tips on techniques. I get my supplies at an actual beauty supply shop so I am using the same stuff the pros are using. Got lots of help from the staff there as well!
Long story short, I get a consistent color, can touch up as needed for a fraction of the cost. My hair is healthier for it too, as opposed to using the boxed kits, because I was shown some awesome conditioner and hair care stuff to go with the color. For what I was spending for a couple of salon treatments, I am getting a year's worth of color and care.
Good luck!
ETA: I am easily 70% gray. 4 med chocolate brown gives enough of the red highlights to make it look like my natural brown from youth. Salon sent me home once with BURGANDY/MAROON!!!0 -
sorry i only do my own too.... every 4-6 weeks usually.... can't help with the salon stuff0

Im 52.Tons of gray. My butt is sitting in that salon chair every 6 weeks!0

I go every 6-8 weeks...sometimes longer because I know the color (I usually get some highlights put in along with color) damages my hair and the cost is just more than I can afford.0
