Quick question... I los track

I have a question... and it may be a stupid question but I need some confirmations here as I have lost track a little bit.
I set my goal for 1200 (to drop some of the vacation weight). Yes, I know this is too low and I do normally eat more. I usually go by TDEE but wanted to be specific with my exercise calories for a couple of weeks.
Yesterday, I consumed 1361 in calories and I had 1280 burned through exercise leaving me with a net of 81. I am under the impression that since I have a goal/target and am counting my exercise calories that my net should equal my target of 1200 at the end of the day, is that correct?
Or did I actually end up over my calorie range eating 1361? I forget if I should be looking at my Net number each day using this method. If that is the case, I simply can't believe I only had a net of 81. If you look at my diary you can see that I ate all day yesterday, all good stuff. If I only netted 81 I figured I would have woken up extremely hungry this morning as I have in the past with a too low net, but I didn't. I did wake up a couple times early morning and felt hungry but I'm not going to jump out of bed and eat at 3 in the morning.
Can someone please re-confirm that I should be looking at Net? or actual calories consumed? I don't know how I got off track here... Thanks!

Hmm well, i had my HRM on in a zumba class recently and i burned 410..net number but I would qustion the burn...I see it is a from fitbit but 490 calories at zumba...I've done zumba...again I would question those burns.
It's not impossible i think.0 -
Okay thanks for the clarification... I'm not sure why I got confused by this. Too many numbers and over thinking it I guess.
Trust me, if you do over an hour of Zumba and you really push yourself you could get even a 500 or 600 calorie burn. I did close to an hour an a half last night for a charity thing. I used the estimated numbers from MFP along with the estimated numbers from Fitbit and I also wore my Nano to track my steps... I took an average of those numbers, MFP being a little too high and Fitbit being a little too low. Based upon my actual steps (only) I got a 485 calorie burn. That doesn't take into account the cardio.
Thanks again!0 -

Yes, a person can burn huge calories with Zumba. It all comes down to how much a person puts into it.0 -

HRM are for steady state cardio...zumba is not steady state cardio.
I burn about 180-200 calories doing kick *kitten* HIIT work outs...that are about 30mins...400-500 for zumba eh...I say overesitmate based on my experience with it and doing it for almost a year...and the longer you do it the less you burn.0 -
..... and the Fitbit number isn't tracking the Zumba, that's just the adjustment (difference) between the estimated calories in/out from the two systems. Just additional calories I burned through my daily steps over and above the estimated calories it takes for me to just live my life. I average well over 10,000 steps a day

Thanks again for the clarification.
If that's the case, 81 Net sucks and I shouldn't have any energy right now and I should be starving! But I am not... I think because my allergies are really killing me this morning and I can't taste anything so it's interfering with my appetite. Yuk.0 -

I do agree but again it all comes down to how much effort one puts into it. Also, if you have a good instructor (or if you are an instructor), the routines and moves are always changing. The beats, tempos, etc... never the same and we all know it's good to keep the body guessing. I do MMA which is super intense, much more so than Zumba, but I consisently burn more calories through dance than through MMA. Totally different type of burn tho.. MMA is more focus, endurance, using ones body weight, stamina, etc. Zumba is pure cardio and leg strength. I consistently up my game in dance... when others are simply moving their feet, I am taking the high intesity path
