Just curious. I hear a lot about what works for people, but I'd like to know what your trouble zones are.
I'm about to totally overhaul my diet, so that I'm consuming a lot more vegetables, lean protein, more fats, and cutting down on my starchy carbs and keeping them whole for the most part. The main reason for this is that I have some intensive dance rehearsals over the summer and I'm really feeling the repercussions of the processed diet I eat now. It's also for the mental aspect - I want to build new healthy habits, not just continue to lose weight eating junk in smaller quantities.
So...it's gonna be a challenge and a journey, and I want to plan as much as possible and set myself up for success. To all those who have fallen, faced obstacles...what were they? How did you find a way to overcome them?

The first would be trying to totally overhaul my diet all at once like it sounds you're about to. I think you'll have a better chance of success and sticking with your diet if you make the transition slowly.0

My pitfall is the type of event I like to go to in the city- bottomless brunches, wine tastings, 4-hour-endless-beer-samples, "Alcoholic Beverages Included" galas, and the like. I'm only worrying about calorie intake, not worrying about what is 'junk' and what isn't. It's still quite hard to create a deficit when 3 things you're going to in a given weekend are centered around consuming booze for 2-3 hours.
The way I'm working to overcome this is by adding in more non-drinky activities. I'm still not turning down bottomless brunches, but I may already be busy that weekend hiking, kind of thing.0 -

Thanks - tried that, no success. I need to cut ties with the foods that are no good for me, and have a fresh start.0 -

You sound like you're in London too?! We have a bar on the premises, and every Friday everyone gets smashed. Then I go and get a McDonald'sSo like you I'm going to have to figure out what to do on a Friday night to avoid spending time in a bar where a vodka and coke costs £1.

I'm not in London anymore (:brokenheart:  ); it's DC that's doing me in.
I have found that most cities have tons of "social dance" classes that meet on Friday nights. You can really get a good burn, learn something new, and meet new people. I prefer swing dance, but I've also done waltz, foxtrot, and some latin dances.0 -
I found eating a big breakfast with my fruit allowance meant that the 10:30am social morning teas with cake were a time that became easy to be a part of without eating the cake.
There was quite a bit of encouragement to eat cake, and even when I said I was full from breakfast people would suggest I take a piece for later! Anyway, I ended up telling people about trying to get healthier and told them my personal reasons for my journey. They became supportive, and continued to enjoy cake without feeling like they had to see me eating cake too.0 -

Drinking will typically make you care less about what you eat. Then again that's what it's supposed to do right? Make you care less. Social lubricant and such.0 -

Yeah, that's why I'm swearing off it for the foreseeable future. That, and it interferes with my training the next day. My dance teacher and my hangover don't get along.0 -
I always need more recipes to keep me from getting bored. If I don't keep at it, I get bored with my meals and then I go out and eat all the fast food0
