I have tried EVERYTHING

I started trying to lose weight in 2006 when I was just a few pounds over the weight standards for the Marine Corps. Between 2006 and 2011 I tried everything.
-I ate 500 calories
-I didn't eat at all
-I tried all the fad diets
-I have taken almost every diet pill on the market (and some that aren't)
-I have tried all of Dr. Oz's miracle weight loss supplements
-I have tried most the meal replacement shakes
-I have done almost every type of fast/cleanse/detox
-I have run for hours on end
-I have done wraps, sauna suits, shake weights, toning shoes, toning clothes, and even the ab vibration belts.
None of them worked.
During this time my weight increased from 160 pounds to 217 pounds. One day in 2011 it hit me that whatever I decided to do was going to be something I had to continue forever. I had to learn a balance of how much I eat compared to what my body actually needed. I also had to learn to balance eating for my health with eating things I enjoy.
Fat loss is part of how our bodies work. The weight loss industry in the United States is a $60 Billion industry just trying to make more money. You don't need the industry to lose fat.

people don't realize just how much economic incentive there is for the weight loss industry to create yo-yo dieters. i'm very much a pro-business, pro-free enterprise kind of a guy, but it would be crazy to think that some (many?) of these weight loss hucksters don't want repeat customers. it's just too lucrative a market and actually telling people that "eating less and moving more is the key" would affect their future income. that's why the industry is so focused on fads that only work in the short term... they work just enough before failing so that the "customer" thinks their willpower is why the diet failed them ultimately. so they binge for a while and then try again. and the yo-yo cycle begins and the weight loss hucksters get a little bit richer.0 -

I'm actually very surprised to hear you we're at one point one of those starving themselves and looking for "miracle" diets for weight loss usmcmp. Actually that fact makes your body transformation and success that much more inspiring.
If I wished one thing for the MFP community it would be that no one was on a 1200 calorie diet (okay maybe the 4'6'' tall grandmas can be), especially those who regularly undershoot that 1200 calories because they have become afraid of food.0 -
So, So right. It's crazy how when I starved myself I just ended up being bigger than ever LLOLO
Starving = binges lol0 -

I'm still waiting for that post from someone talking about how they managed to lose weight, get the body they always wanted in the end and keep the weight off from a 1200 calorie diet. Still waiting.0

I started on here at 1200, but that still set off the starve/binge cycle. Didn't actually lose weight until I increased to 1600 (and started lifting).0 -

Me too... However - I only lasted like 2 and half days on 1200 I was so dizzy and sick I couldn't stand it!
Great post usmcmp. you are one of my inspirations for sure! :flowerforyou:0 -

Gold Star!
I just don't get why people fall for all these dumb fads.0 -

Yup, I started at 1200 too, (although to be honest, even at the time I didn't really plan on sticking to it). I lasted about two weeks before I bit my husband's head off for something stupid. I immediately drove to the store and bought myself some sushi, and upped my calories to 1800, then to 2,000 a month after that, then to 2300 a few months later....... yea 1,200 calories:0 -

I did too and lots of cardio...So glad I learned from all you meanies to eat more and pick up the heavy things. :laugh:0 -
Thanks for taking the time to post that info. I've done many of the fad diets too! My mother took me to our family Doctor when I was 12 years old because she thought I should lose weight. I ended up taking speed for two years……… Now, I'm over 60 and really chubby BUT not giving up. Have found great strength using MFP and eliminating as much sugar as possible.0

I was here before the meanies really started speaking up. I was 100% dedicated to 1200 calories, 6 meals, clean eating and cardio for the first few months. It took reading an interview of a few fitness models to convince me to do things different. Increase calories, increased protein, started lifting, started eating treats from time to time, started getting results.0 -

The odd part for me is, I already knew that's what I *should* be doing, but I just thought, well this low cal stuff is what everybody else does so maybe I should give it a try? That's what I get for succumbing to internet peer pressure!0 -

Consider your goal met... and that was meFormer Army (medical)... I didn't gain weight until after (thyroid).. when I came here in 2010 I fell into the 1200 a day (BUT.. I did eat ALL my exercise calories back but did nothing but cardio)...
I found the thread in October with the women who lift and their results... Yours was one of themWhile I will do it to competition level, I will continue to lift and transform myself... so from me TY
