can I work off surplus calories from YESTERDAY?

I ate 500 calories over my MFP suggested daily limit and Id like to know if I can work off the calories from yesterday, today? If my limit is 1200 calories and I work off 500 today, resulting in a net caloric intake of 700, and then do not eat back the 700 calories. Can I do that and have a weekly average of 1200 and still lose weight? I usually eat back all of the calories I work off. Will I still lose weight at the projected rate if I occasionally dont eat back my calories if Ive gone over the day before? I wouldnt make a habit of it but yesterday I was at a celebration and I went over by 500.

One day a week won't hurt your overall result. Having said that, what you can do is exercising before having your first meal. I'd have coffee and/or banana before my work out though so I won't suffer from low blood sugar after an hour. Then go ahead and eat those 1200 calories of the day.0

Yesterday, the day before, eight days after. So long as you're on the average in a caloric deficit, you'll lose weight. Just make sure you're eating enough to fuel your activity and don't pass out or anything.
I use the app to watch a weekly deficit , and do what I can from day to day. Go to Nutrition -> Weekly. It has a nice bar graph of your net calories every day in the week and your weekly remaining calories as well as average calories in the week. If you use this, you may wish to change a setting to lock down the "beginning" of the week to a specific day like Sunday or Tuesday, and not just a seven day running total/average (unless you prefer that)
Tl;DR your plan seems fine.0 -

Please don't. As a male, 1200 is not even appropriate for you. As little as you have to lose, you'd be best off setting your weight loss goal to 1/2 pound per week.0 -
I do my calories based on a weekly cycle (not sure if anyone else does this). I get 1,400 a day to have, or i have 1,200 a day and then have a blow out once a week. If i go over one day and i can't make it up that day i either work it to eat less over the rest of the week to make it up or i work my butt off. Tbh 500 cals over won't make a massive dent in your weight loss anyway if you don't make it up. You normally have to be like 1-3,000 over to put on a couple of pounds from what i've been told, might be wrong though so don't quote me on that.0

Seeing as you're on 1200 you're likely on a massive deficit. If you were eating more calories I'd say your plan was fine, as you're already eating so little I'd suggest drawing a line under it and moving on. If your maintenance is 1800 cals a day, your weekly calories would be 12,600. You're only taking on 8,400 - having 8,900 is still going to result in your weight loss0

Of course you can. MFP isn't real, your body is.0

Why are you at 1200 daily? MFP shouldn't have put you that low as a man, and no, what you're suggesting is a bad idea, just move on, it's 500 calories, one day is not going to make you fat, just like one day is not going to make you skinny. Just log it and move on.

:ohwell: Hello, My name is Deena and this is my first day on the Message Board. I have been using MFP for about a month and I love it, but I do find it a bit intimidating. My main problem is eating after my husband goes to bed. I have a history of weight ISSUES. I WON'T go into all that as it does not seem appropriate.
But this issue of working off surplus calories from the day before definitely comes into play for me. I have been fairly successful so far using this system. I started off at 218 & now I'm 205,,,, I think. I was last Monday. That's kinda what scares me. The weigh-in day... Tuesday for me...... I've been having problems as I already said with snacking after 10:00 pm.... usually something chocolate, though, chips, cashews, or peanut butter toast has substituted.
Thanx for your support.:flowerforyou:0
