How does a beginner build a home fitness plan?

Hi everyone after loosing a lot of weight by fixing my diet I think its about time I try to really get myself in good shape. Problem is I am completely lost on how I can build a total body home exercise program for myself.

There are just so many exercises out there that target this that and the other thing that im confused... how do I know which exercises to do and on what days?! I have read things about arm days, leg days, core days and so on and it confuses me. A gym is out of question and im just working at home with dumbbells and my own body weight, what would be the best way to build a plan?

So far this is what I have and im totally lost on what exercises I should be putting on the ??? days.

Mon - ???
Tues - cardio
Wed - ???
Thurs - cardio
Friday - ???
Sat - cardio

Maybe look into "You Are Your Own Gym". There is a app for your phone and/or tablet and a book too, I believe. It is all about using your own body weight for resistance.

  • Great job on losing weight! You can find a great workout program to do from home if you just narrow down what you would like to achieve and how. Are you looking for more cardio, strength training, or both? There are so many great 30 minute programs you can do from home that are effective and fun. Also, you don't want to have too many days of just cardio. You need some stretching, upper body, lower body and strength work as well. If you need support and motivation I run Challenge Groups on Facebook where we work out from home and support each other in the privacy of a closed group. You're more than welcome to friend me on Facebook. Good luck!
