sugar in fruit :/

Ok so I have been entering all my info in MFP but I keep going over in the sugar area.... I have 400 calories left but out of sugar.... Is this a BIG issue when it comes to weight loss? I am eating baked chicken, baked fish, salads and fruit!!! I know the sugar is coming from the fruit but isnt fruit suppose to be healthy??? I had pineapple and plum for breakfast and I was going to have a cup of grapes with lunch and Watermelon as my snack..... I know replacing the fruit with carrots or cucumbers would help with the sugar intake but I do love my fruit and dont feel as if Im dieting as much when I get to eat it. :) So I guess my question is since I am not going over my calories is going over my sugar gonna hurt my chances of me losing weight?

Fruit is good for you of course, but it does have sugar. People take the positive step of replacing sweets with fruit, but then they satisfy their sweet tooth with too much fruit. Aim for about two servings of fruit a day which should land you in the green for sugar intake.

Forget the sugar. Sugar is not the enemy. The Sugar macro on MFP is low anyway, and it's for added sugar. Real sugar, like that in fruit is counted in your carbs.

Really, the only macros you should really pay attention to is making sure you're getting enough protein & fat, having a decent amount of carbs and trying to have less sodium (which causes water retention). Otherwise, stick to your calories.
  • I ALWAY have sodium left over. I stay in the green in it and in fats normally to. The sugar is the only one that Im going over in. Like today if I eat my 1/2 cup of grapes and my watermelon I will be 20 over. But everything else is in the green. Which I dont normally eat sweets. I am a salt eater BIG TIME! So I have cut out my salt. But I grew up eating fruits and veggies and I just love them! I could eat squash, zucchini, onions, carrots, cucumbers, and fruit any and all fruit all day long! My biggest down falls have been homemade biscuits, corn bread, and salt! So I have cut those out!! And have done real good but if I had to cut my fruit out too I know I will fail. :/

I don't even track sugar - and I eat lots of fruit. Hasn't been a problem.

You don't need to cut anything out. Even going over sodium some days isn't that big of a deal (just be prepared for some water retention gains on the scale the next day).

Seriously, eat the foods you love, whether it's fruits, pasta, bread, whatever. Just fit it into your calorie goal. You'll be much happier eating everything you love (in moderation), than if you were to cut things out. Losing weight is the added bonus.

Unless you are insulin resistant or have other blood sugar problems, you can eat your sugar. Stay within your calorie deficit and you will lose weight.
