Newbie with a Goal needs advise.....

Hi all

I am one week in and have lost only 3/4 lb! I have a specific goal with my holiday in 15 weeks. I was doing weight watchers and was losing an average of 2lb per week, but did feel limited so thought low calorie was the way to go. MFP says i should eat 1200 calories a day but the weight loss seems very very slow in comparison to what i am used to. I am currently weighing at 191 lbs, 5ft 2" and 39 year old female. My Goal by the end of the 15 weeks is to be at 167 lb at a minimum. Is this realistic and what would you guys suggest to help me get there?

Thanks

Weighloss is not linear you need to get it into perspective you did not put the weight on over night so it wont come off that quick. 2 pounds a week is pushing it for you so you need to reign in your expectations. When you lose the weight you want to keep it off don't you? Do it properly there is no need to starve yourself if you don't weigh 167 pounds in 15 weeks the world wont end aim for the long term. These links may help you for sensible healthy weight loss. Good luck

I'd say you're being a little too ambitious, you should aim for a 1lb loss a week, especially at that age you don't want to rapidly lose weight and end up with excessive amounts of loose skin.
Just throw in some cardio if you wanna boost your weight loss a little more.

Guys, thank you for your responses. I think you told me what i already knew. Maybe i'll turn the WII on a coupe of times a week and see if that helps!

    Thank you

Goals are good, as long as they are achievable.
I have lost that much weight in that much time before, but you see I'm back here after falling off the wagon, so it wasn't sustainable for me. Now, I'm trying to behave like I would at my goal weight... meaning I am not denying myself foods I love and am taking exercise slowly.
Adding the exercise is a great idea, though, because weight loss does naturally slow down after a bit (with the same caloric intake)...the increased activity bumps up the metabolism and keeps you from a plateau.

    Hi Emma,

First off, good for you for taking the initiative to try to lose weight and get healthy.

I spent much of my early life setting unrealistic goals and expectations, failing, and beating myself up over it.

24 pounds over 15 weeks is not ridiculous, but it is quite ambitious.

In my opinion, if you want permanent weight loss, try not to focus so much on the numbers per week and whatnot. Focus on what you are DOING, rather than pounds and inches. The fact is that the scale can be very unreliable. Fluid losses/gains, glycogen, and whether or not you've pooped recently can make a significant impact on how much you weigh day to day. So freaking out over "only" a 3/4 pound loss in a week is not wise.

Weight loss is hard. You won't change overnight. Eat more veggies and lean protein. Learn more about healthy foods and whatnot. The weight will come off, I promise!

Remember, slow and steady wins the race!!

    Good luck!

If you are switching from Weight Watchers to here, give your body some time to adjust to the amount of calories you are now eating.
