Battle Ropes!

So I tried something new at planet fitness today. Battle ropes. Always watched people use them, never tried them myself. I have anxiety and really don't like approaching people for help or asking questions in person, so I kinda just copied what I'd seen people do with them. I guess my question is, before I start googling around, are there any good workouts or ways to use these ? Also what muscle groups do they target? I didn't use them long but I feel like the flabby fat of my arms (my "wings" as I call them) got a work out LOL...

While those will help a tad with "toning" up your arms, they are more considered cardio. Battle ropes are fun, though.If you really want to work your "bat wings" (triceps), you should consider weight training. I found skull crushers to be REALLY effective in targeting that area, but those are just ONE exercise that you can do. I'm sure there are several other exercises that will hit that area.
If you want something effective for full body work-outs, a lot of people recommend compound lifting programs, like Starting Strength and StrongLifts. I started with SS/SL, then recently moved to a PHUL program, which I believe will be more effective. It is yet to be seen if I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I do love the variety and the combination of isolation exercises, as well as compound lifts.

Battling ropes are excellent. I'm surprised Planet Fitness has them. Lots of exercises on Youtube (search for both battling ropes and battle ropes). I do an rowing exercise that's similar to this, except i stack plates on the end of the rope:

The advice to include strength training too is a good one. Do a full-body program, not just arms.0 -

reconsider asking* at the gym ... its by far a sign of strength than it is of weakness.
Develop a relationship with someone in your gym
Tiger Woods is a pretty good golfer and he has a coach
Peyton Manning has a coach
I always ask because I want to learn, its quicker than trial and error, and I learn form
* ask an employee at the appropriate time (not if they are in the middle of a personal training session).

it is an awesome cardio exercise. Would typically be done in intervals. WHat muscles it works depends on how you are doing it. For me, it's mainly upper back and glutes.0

Does anyone have a definitive answer on why Battle Ropes are used? Im working on building a website for a rope manufacturer at www.exerciseropes.co.uk they make and sell loads of different types of ropes and i need some more info on uses and cal burn etc

Battle Ropes are definitely best for interval training. They can work various muscle groups so I wouldn't focus on much on that as I would on just hitting it hard and varying BR's with other forms of cardio. Two things I like doing...
1. One-set equals 20-sec all out / 20-sec rest: Shoot for 15-sets
2. One set equals 1-min all out / 2 to 3 min rest0
