So I'm going to Outback Steakhouse with some friends tonight and thought that I would just have a bowl of potato soup cause it's something I love and don't have it very often. Looked up the calories on MFP and it's over 772 calories for one bowl of soup!!!!! Guess I'll just have grilled chicken and steamed green beans.

Oh man, that is distressing... but enjoy your chicken and green beans and be happy with how sensible you are!

If you have the calories, what about a cup of soup since that's a smaller serving than a bowl?

If you get the cup size, its like halfish the portion and thus, halfish the calories. I'd try that :)

Or, Claim Jumper has wicked tasty potato soup and the BOWL is only 300 something calories. I'd convince your friends to go to a different restaurant haha

The green beans are loaded with butter and high fat...order them without butter

Yay to you for planning ahead and making a smart decision about your meal BEFORE you go out to eat. You think you are making good choices until you see the real numbers. Scary isn't it?
PS, Have you tried Campbell's version of the baked potatoe soup? It's great for cold nights and fits into your diet plan. (I eat half a can with a sandwich!). Great job! Good luck on your goals. You CAN do this!

Ugh I can only imagine. Butter, potatoes, cream, cheese, fatty stock and salt.

    Be happy that you checked!!!

You can also get Steak (sirloin or filet mignon). Just have them hold the butter. Also, they don't show it online, but you can usually get Broccoli instead of Green Beans if you want. Again, ask them to hold the butter.

Isn't this a great tool....to help you determine that before you get there?! You know if you just have to have the soup.....you just can't have anything else. But, without this tool....I would have the soup and then anything else I wanted and paid for it later. Enjoy your time with your friends!!!

For me the Outback would have to be a cheat day or a splurge. I get the same thing everytime I go. Blue Cheese Chopped Salad. Blue cheese crusted Filet (I do get the smaller one) and a baked sweet potato WITH the butter and brown sugar. YUM! And there is no way I will check the nutrition on this. I prefer to stay in the dark. It's only a few times a year.

When I go to any steak place, I look for a small fillet and a baked potato with just sour cream on the side. Then I get a house side salad with vinaigrette on the side and dip. I also try to stick to unsweetened drinks and skip dessert. This way I can still have my steak and potatoes!

They also have fish, chicken, and steamed veggies. You just have to be specific when you order: steam veggies, not sautee; grill meat with no extra butter or fat; all "extras" on the side. Good luck and enjoy!
