So we would all love a bigger booty, but squats, do they actually work??

YES!!! Well they tone and lift and make it look better.
Do a variety of them so you hit all the different muscles and make sure you have good form.0 -
My butt isn't bigger; in fact, I fit into smaller pants...BUT, my butt is 6 inches higher and a better shape.0

Kinda. Not the best exercise for glutes. Barbell hip thrusts and bulgarian split squats will serve you better for that.0

Work.... I assume you mean to give a bigger booty?
It depends.
Are you eating at a caloric surplus and gaining weight? If not, nothing will be getting much bigger.
Are you doing air squats or body weight squats? If yes, you're wasting time.
Heavy, weighted squats, deadlifts, and hip thrusts can work some magic if you're eating at a surplus or at maintenance. If you are eating at a deficit, you'll see improved perkiness and shape, but no significant size increases.0 -

If it were perfectly horizontal, it would not be low enough to break parallel.
Full parallel means the hip break line is below the top of the knee. This is the minimum required for full ROM on a squat.

atg is butt to the ground (pretty much)
parallel is hip to knee level

So, I tried a couple of body weight squats today to see how my knees would feel. So far, not so great. Having a lot of pain going up and down small steps. I hope it's just from deconditioning! I had two major knee surgeries last fall and I was pretty debilitated pre-surgery, from being in a wheelchair for 6 months.
Will keep trying a tiny bit at a time, since I really do need to get those muscles stronger.
Haven't tried lunges yet, they sort of scare me but I really want to.0 -
