Great workout today - feeling frustrated

I have been training for my first triathlon since February. I have just over a month until the big day. When I started I weighed 246 lbs. I could barely run at speed 4.5 for 5 minutes. I struggled to swim two laps in the pool. Fast forward to today, well yesterday. Yesterday I did 6x100 in the pool. Today I biked hard for 50 minutes and then ran for 30 minutes maintaining a 10 mph pace. You would think I have come quite a ways. Then I get into the locker room and look in the mirror and see that I still weigh 238lbs :mad: . I just busted my butt for 80 minutes in the gym, and all I see is what I am not. How do I change that :sad:

Understand that you weight doesn't define you and understand that your weight is only one measure of your overall health. You are improving upon your fitness (that has nothing to do with your body weight, fat, etc)...that's awesome and your fitness is something you're going to have to take with you into perpetuity...long after you've reached whatever arbitrary number you've set for yourself on the scale, you'll still have to go bust your butt in the gym.
I would also imagine that you've made improvements to the quality of your diet...learning proper nutrition and how to properly fuel your body takes time and a lot of study and baby steps to get there.
There are numerous measures of success and you have to understand that losing weight is only one element of a much larger process that is your path to long term health and well being.0 -
Don't go by the scale. I am sure that you have made great progress in your health. You know that muscle weighs more than fat, and based on what you descibed as your workout routine you have gained a lot of muscle. I bet if you measure by inches you will see that you have lost a lot of inches and your clothes probably fit better, too. So keep up the good work; it does pay off.0

Full agreement with everything the posters above me said. While you obviously are improving your endurance and cardiovascular health, you are also building a lot of muscle. Sometimes I freak out when I see my weight has spiked and then I remember it's muscle gain that comes before loss of body fat weight.
Keep doing what you are doing, because it sounds like you are making vastly impressive changes and there is no doubt it will show more and more.0 -

I had the same thing happen to me then all of a sudden like 6 or so weeks later I wake up one day and I have suddenly lost weight! Keep working hard and it will pay off for sure! Do not give up! :bigsmile:0
