Side plank

Hi guys!

I just completed my second day doing Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack and I am really struggling with her side plank. I find it very painful on my wrists so I can't even hold the pose let alone do the movements she's asking for. Any tips or suggestions as to why its hurting my wrists would be greatly appreciated!

Side note I am attempting the beginners plank so down on one knee and one foot if that makes sense as I have never done this exercise before.

    hi there

when i do side plank i rest my weight on my lower arm (so that my arm is bent). have you tried it this way? I dont think its any harder than doing it with straight arms. My wrists hurt too on those types of exercises. i have to use handles to do pressups!

    hope this helps

Well, a plank should be done on elbows and toes, so a side plank would be done on an elbow and side of the foot. Drop down and put your weight on your forearm instead of your wrist/hand.

If you can plank on your elbow then do that. If not, if you have a dumb bell you can use that so your wrist is straight instead of bent. I have to do that with push-ups sometimes if my wrists hurt.

I agree with the others here about doing it on your elbow. I don't have the wrist pain problem but I do it that way, and I feel it in my core muscles the same either way.

Hi, I just started level two of this program and struggled with the side planks as well. The only way I can do them is on my forearms as well. It's still a challenge.

Let me know how you do. I love JM workouts, and this one is tough. Especially level two, not a lot of mat work, which surprised me.

Thanks all for replying! I'll try dropping down onto my elbow tomorrow
