Making greek yogurt taste nicer?

I'm going to buy some greek yogurt later, and I remember the last time I tried it by itself, I wasn't very pleased.
Any idea's on how to make it taste nicer? I thought that vanilla extract could be a start.

I buy the plain, full-fat greek yogurt and I usually add a half of a powdered sugar-free drink tube to a 1/2 cup of yogurt. Lots of varieties to choose from, and relatively cheap0
-
I add some dark cocoa powder/chocolate protein powder and sweetener with a drop of vanilla essense. It's lovely like that :-)
Alternatively maybe a teaspoon of low sugar jam to make your own fruity yogurt

Any time I've had greek yoghurt I've added a little bit of honey.0

I buy the 0% Fat varieties and add any or all of the following,
Honey, Jam, Nutella, Fruit, Nuts, Seeds (sweet varieties)
Chopped Spring Onions, Cucumber, Mint, Red Onion, Peppers, Pestos etc.
It makes really good low cal dips with these and condiments like chilli powder, tomato paste etc...0 -
I add honey or fresh fuit (apple, satsuma, berries, whatever you like ????)0
-
I buy 0% or 2% fat greek yogurt and put in half a sliced banana and a tsp of raspberry jam with it before going to the pool.0

Cinnamon, splenda, and blue berries or black berries is usually the way I eat it. Cinnamon and a little splenda also work well by themselves if you don't have any berries to put in.0

Ooh they all sound delicious, thanks for the input guys :drinker:0

I add bilberries. Natural sweetener and tastes deliciously.0

I actually like it on its own - its delicious, just takes a while to get used to it.
But try a little honey or maple syrup with chopped nuts or any fruit. Strawberries and Blueberries are my favourite0 -

I mix 6 ounces of it with protein powder and a teaspoon of water to make a protein pudding. Nice healthy dessert0 -
I always buy full fat now I have realised the 0% fat contains lots of sugar but I add raspberries on top and it's yummy.0

Honey!!0

Reeses pieces always make mine taste pretty good. ..0
-
I add 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder and chopped walnuts to about 3 oz of the low fat one...yum!0
-
I freeze it and blend it with fruits (mango/banana/etc) -- taste like ice cream to me
I also cannot stand the taste on its own.0 -
I add juicy fruits to get it a bit thinner. Nectarines are my current favourites, but sliced strawberries, grapes or oranges work too.0

Savoury - add lemon juice, finely chopped cucumber and garlic to make a lovely tzatziki - use as a dressing, or a topping for a cracker or as a dip for veg or pitta
Sweet - dark cocoa powder with a touch of splenda makes for a nice treat - freeze it if you're craving ice-cream
If you're in North America, flavoured splenda really makes a difference - vanilla is my fave
Cheesecake craving? - Mix equal quantities of 0% greek yog and low fat cream cheese, dash of vanilla and some splenda and serve with some fresh fruit - add crumbled digestives if you have the extra calories to spare0 -
You can also add any kind of sugar free pudding/jello mix. The butterscotch tastes really good lol.0
-
Add granola - you can buy in store already put together or make your own based on what you like. It is awesome!!! Sometimes, I skip the yogurt and just eat the granola.0

Depends how you feel about 0 calorie artifical sweeteners, but I like to have for breakfast 0% fat greek yoghurt, with a banana sliced up, and some truvia sweetner mixed in0

It's great that you're giving it a second chance! But if you end up not enjoying it, there is no shame in cutting it out.
Now I happen to enjoy the taste of plain greek yoghurt, but if I fancy it up I usually go one of two ways. I either add blueberries and pecans to mine, how much depends on the mood I'm in. Or I add about a teaspoon of honey and walnuts.0 -
Try some different varities - they all taste different. Some I don't like, others I do.
I like to add protein powder or honey, macro-depending.0 -
I buy Fage Greek 0% and usually put a scoop of whey protein in with a pinch of water to smooth it out to a mouse consistency. Also any kind of fruit that you enjoy cut up into it works well.0

I've never tried it by adding sweet things - might have to...
I just always found it reminded me of sour cream so used it in lieu of that.
Recently I have become semi-obsessed with mixing no fat greek yogurt + salsa + spices/salt. It makes a yummy dip, or a great salad dressing. Especially for taco salad0 -
Don't buy plain?
Or buy plain and stir in low sugar homemade preserves?0 -
i use it plain instead of sour cream, but for sweet i do berries and a pinch of splenda if i really want it sweet, but normally the berries are enough.0

A tip that I use often (and wish I thought of earlier) is - I use non-fat greek plain yogurt as sour cream - On a baked potato with chives and salt and pepper, or a scoop on top of some homemade chili. ALSO, DIPS! I use Liptons onion soup/dip mix with greek yogurt instead of sour cream, and seriously NO-One (evenly my insanely picky brother) could tell the difference. I also had a dinner party with friends where I made fajitas and topped each with a scoop of plain greek and everyone thought it was sour cream.
As far as eating it straight up, I like the taste, but I can see how some wouldnt. To make it more sweet/dessert-like I add some berries and kinda half smash the berries up in it along with some honey on top. A bit of nuts or granola add a nice crunch, too.0 -
Try a different brand, they don't all taste the same.
You can add honey, maple syrup, fruit, flavoured... they all make it taste different.0 -
Wow - I thought my sour cream post was clever, but I guess it took me too long to write it because by the time it got posted you guys beat me to it!
Great tips about the salsa - yum. Glad to hear other people are doing this too.0
