Lunch Menus? Soda Dreams...

Hi guys, I come seeking advice I have cut out caffeine and colas in addition to joining MFP as of Monday. I used to have 1 can of diet pepsi after lunch and swigging this for an hour used to keep the post-lunch-sweet-munchies at bay. Having now read up on the aspartames found in cola, I knew I had to break this habit, not only for dieting reasons but also because it's just poison!

The issue I'm finding is that post-lunch, I am really missing this can-swig and am now craving a sweet treat to chew instead. I am drinking so much water, I am now part-woman, part-camel. Any suggestions on low calorie lunch menus or recipes that may keep the sweet tooth at bay?

    Hi,

I gave up the lunchtime can of diet cola a few months ago, so I know it can be difficult.

I try to drink some herbal/fruit teas in the afternoon (peppermint, mixed fruit) and that helps. I also tend to have a small portion of dried fruit in the afternoon or an apple and that seems to help.

    Cheers,
    C
  • You can get a soda sweetened with Stevia at some health food stores. It's called Zevia, and comes in the usual variety of flavors, so you don't have to have the caffeine. :)
  • I used to have 4-5 cans of Coca-cola a day at work, so I know how hard it can be to go cold-turkey on that stuff. the four day headache was the worst part. A dietician turned me on to Crystal Light. There are many different flavors to choose from, I prefer the fruit punch version.

Also to beat back the mid-afternoon cravings I have found that a 100 calorie pack that Keebler sells tends to help when I am about to give in.
  • Lately I've been bringing two small pieces of chocolate to work (the ghirardelli squares are perfect for this!). I eat one right after lunch and one at like 3 pm. It's just the right amount of sweetness to get me through the day without breaking the calorie bank. Right now I'm addicted to the ghirardelli dark chocolate white mint... way better than york mints (which I also love)!
  • someone needs to hand you a LUNA BAR....it's like jesus tap dancing in your mouth. haha. i usually open one after lunch and cut it up into bites so it lasts longer.....they're healthy....full of protein and vitamins and low calorie. they also make one specifically for women. also, my doctor recommended calcium chews. they make them in dark chocolate now which is even better for you!

Thanks for all your responses guys! Really helpful...am in London so will have to seek out some of these items...have heard a lot about Crystal Light on these boards! Not sure if I have the will power yet to stop at 2 squares of chocolate (it's more of a hoover relationship between me and chocolate!) but will definitely look up these LUNA bars- if only because I couldn't stop laughing at Jesus dancing in my mouth! (So wrong...yet so funny!)

Thanks again and keep up the good fight!
