I have p90x but as far as equipment goes I only have one pair of 5lb dumbells and an 8lb kettlebell. I'm tight on money but I really want to do this program. Where could I find cheap dumbells and around how many do I have to buy?

Craigslist is usually the place to buy cheap weights, but you might find a set of resistance bands is more scaleable.
  • Check Craig's list for dumbbells. But the range I see posted is about 2 - 25lbs for woman. Alternatively, you can get elastic bands which are less expensive and portable. I personally recommend BodyLastic bands ( work safe: http://www.bodylastics.com/bodylastics-basic-tension-system/) as they have a safety cord that will minimize damage if the band snaps. You can get the basic kit for $25 dollars. If you can, though, get the Max Tension kit for $35. You can use the bands with the included attachments as an alternative to a pullup bar so you won't need to purchase one right away.

P90X includes using the bands as an alternative in the routines.
