For those of you who like to have drinks....

Alcoholic drinks, that is . I'm curious, what do you drink that you're still able to stay on track? Is there anything low in calories that I don't know about?

I used to do vodka and diet Cherry 7 up. I don't so much now because I would buy a bottle of vodka and feel the need to drink the whole thing. Now I have cut way down on how often I drink and just plan ahead. The vodka diet drink is still a good idea for most people. It's low calorie drink-wise and delicious. Tonight it's Red's Apple Ale. 2 of them then I'm off to bed. Everything in moderation, you know.

There is nothing guaranteed to stave off the alcohol munchies every single time. I'm up to three glasses of red wine tonight at 5 oz a pop, and being a lightweight, I'm cross-eyed drunk. But at this time, I'm fine, not even over my daily calories, but next time I might dive into a bowl of cashews and raisins with unrepentant abandon. Alcohol isn't dangerous because of its inherent calories, it's dangerous because it can unleash the raving munchies.

Sunkist Sparkling Lemonade is my favorite mixer, at 10 calories a can. Add a squeeze of fresh lime, the alcohol of your choice, and some muddled fresh mint for a summer treat for about 100 calories.

    Munchies are another issue.

^^This sounds just like me in regards to the vodka! I now don't drink in the house - just on the rare occasions I go out.

Yup, what Meerata said about the raving munchies. I crave bread by the loaf when I've gotten just over that line. Otherwise I like wine, vodka diet 7up with mio, and yeah, I still drink beer. I don't weigh in the day after beer because I swell like a you know what (YAY mild hops allergy) but I still drink it. ;) As long as it fits my calories. :D

Any type of hard alcohol mixed with a diet soda would be the highest alcohol content for the lowest calorie intake. The calories present in alcohol are mostly from the alcohol itself (7 calories per gram). Stay away from mixed drinks with regular soda because the calories add up very quickly.

I was in the habit of a glass of white wine almost every night - used to pour it automatically as I served dinner. I don't have any magic low cal drinks but for me it was just thinking of the wine as 'empty' calories - was one glass worth, for example 20 mins walking. I still enjoy my wine but have self imposed a 3 nights a week x1 glass - I fit it within my kilojoules and I don't feel deprived.

A shot of hornitos tequila, half a can of lime seltzer water, and a spritz of lime juice.

Crystal Lite has a Margarita mix that is awesome. If you drink it with crushed ice in a fancy glass, you don't even need to add alcohol. The also have a mojito mix but I haven't tried that before. The other day I didn't use a fancy glass. I used a measuring cup for the exact amount of alcohol my calories allowed. Then I added the ice and Crystal Lite.

I try to have a small bottle of beer instead of wine...less calories and I find I'm not as likely to have loads/binge eat :)

As long as you measure and log the calories just like you would any other food or drink, and remain within your calorie budget you should be alright. Don't forget to keep hydrated if you're making a night of it too!

The Crystal Light mixes are delicious... the other day I mixed strawberry Crystal Light with lime juice, shot of tequila (measured), and a splash of club soda and it was AMAZING!

If you know you tend to overeat when you drink alcohol, or aren't able to remain within your calorie goal, then perhaps you should avoid it.

I don't have 'low calorie' anything. I drink the same things I used to and have less of them...same as my food - eat the same as I used to but smaller portions (I've always stayed away from a lot of processed food - just ate too big portions of yummy homemade food). I drink beer & wine, and I enjoy them.

I very rarely suffer from "alcohol munchies," and i drink maybe twice a month. But i had a bartender recommend the flavored vodka (I've had orange and raspberry) mixed with plain soda water. It tastes like a very mildly flavored orange or raspberry water. One also mixed plain vodka and soda water with a splash of lime, tasted pretty good. It comes out to roughly 90 calories for a full shot of vodka plus soda water.

ETA: this is how i avoid all artificial sweeteners, because i like to have a few drinks every now and then, i absolutely hate artificial sweeteners, and i hate how many calories soda adds to a drink.

My favorite beers are mostly 250 calories per 12 ounce bottle (plus or minus). It's a combination of moderation and cardio.

Bourbon, 2 ice cubes. I am drinking Woodford Reserve primarily. I don't need a whole lot of it to satisfy me.

I don't mix anything into it. If I can't sip it straight, I don't much want to drink it.

  • I've moved from liquor to a glass or two of red wine or a colors light. The wine seems to relax me more than liquor and I don't drink as much of it. I only drink socially though, never at home.
