No one can give you motivation to succeed. You have to find that within. People can support you and give you an occasional pat on the back for a job well done, but no one is going to be there telling you to get out of bed and go to the gym. You have to do that. Take ownership of your health and fitness.
As for the soda thing, drink diet. Problem solved.
Start by getting very honest about where you are. How much are you currently eating? What is your daily routine like and how much are you exercising? When you finish that analysis, set a calorie goal that is a reasonable cut from there and get yourself into an exercise routine that is attainable now. As you improve you can increase your activity level and further reduce your calorie goal until you're in a true deficit and losing about 1 pound a week (more if you are obese but be careful with how much). If you post your stats people can give you additional, and specific, advice.0 -
Okay. Thanks!
And by motivation I mean like just tell me how they did it and how they got over their problems...
I know ill have to be the one to actually make the changed.0 -
I cut soda by replacing it with seltzer water. I discovered it wasn't actually the taste, but instead the fizziness, that I enjoyed with soda. I have a soda stream machine at home now so I can carbonate my water whenever I want. It's also a lot cheaper than buying cans and bottles of soda!0

Here's what helped me get started and keep going: Total and complete honesty with myself.
I'd "dieted" before as probably everyone on MFP has. I was successful in the short term, but never the long because I didn't do the work to figure out what would be sustainable for me. When I started in June 2013, I sat down and made a list with 3 columns: Will Do, Won't Do and Later. The Will Do list had things like "Stay within calorie goal". The Won't Do list had "Cook from Scratch" and "Stop Eating Out". I had to admit to myself that I was just not going to be willing to give up prepare foods and eating out. The Later list had "Exercise" on it. I decided I needed to get my eating under control and lose enough that I felt comfortable exercising. Exercise had since moved to the every darn day list.
Do the work. Figure out what is right for YOU and not what diet "experts" say you should do. IMO, that's the path to success.0
