Extreme dizziness, unable to workout

Hello!
Very recently, maybe the past two weeks or so, I've been getting extremely dizzy while running (on treadmill), and basically anything that raises my heart rate. I've never in my life had problems with pushing myself and working out hard. I thought that maybe I have low blood pressure? I've never had a problem before but perhaps for some reason it's developing now. I always make sure to eat -carbs/protein/ & foods that will keep my blood pressure at a good level - an hour or so before any exercising. I drink plenty of water per day and amp it up before and during activity. I slowly start, try to push myself, and the dizziness sets in. I can go maybe 10-15 minutes until I start feeling light headed. I'm beginning to think there's something seriously wrong with me. I'm generally pretty healthy. I juice greens almost every single day. I'm a vegetarian, and yes I get plenty of protein. Every single second of every day I don't feel completely normal. There's always a slight light headedness going on, I should probably add that I am currently prescribed to methadone. I've been on it for over two years and have never had a problem. Is it my medicine that's starting to deteriorate my body? I'm basically starting to freak out and I have no idea what to do. I'm trying to get into seeing a doctor, but until then, not being able to exercise or do any activity that raises my heart rate is a complete nightmare. Am I able to ever exercise normally again?! I've been tested multiple times for anemia since it runs in my family but I've always shown to never have it. Thanks ahead for any input and your time.

first, go to a doctor if you think there's something wrong! don't let them put your appointment off. and if it's scary, go to urgent care.
second, i get dizzy when i push too hard or work out without eating. i'm not in great shape, and i have diabetes type 2, and both my poor cardio and my blood sugar can cause dizziness - my blood sugar if i have a sudden drop can cause such dizziness that i need to lean on a wall to walk. it doesn't matter that it's still high blood sugar - the sudden drop is rough.
have you recently lost weight? if so, your methadone dose could now be too high. seriously, don't just get checked for anemia - get checked for everything!!!0 -
If you're feeling dizzy constantly, I'd head to the ER. Constant dizziness is abnormal.
You need a doctor!!!!!!!!!!0 -
First go to your dr...
But I can say I was doing that and feeling weak and ended up was anemic, it has been over a month and I still feel it. Not as bad though. However I am not on any meds or anything, this was just in my situation.
Anyways your dr will be only one that can tell you what's going on, wish I had gone month before I did so it wouldn't have gotten so bad.0 -
I was feeling dizzy at the gym when I had gastritis. Are you experiencing any stomach pains?0
-
I'm not experiencing any stomach pain, I went to the dr today and my heart and blood pressure is normal. Makes me a little more at ease but still need to get some blood work done.
Thank you for your time & your reply!!0 -

If you're slightly dizzy all the time and it gets worse when you move a bunch it could be an inner ear problem. Go to the doctor and describe your symptoms.
I tend to get short-term vertigo with allergies. I got it pretty severely this year (weeks) due to the abnormally high pollen count, the doctor thought I had a severe allergic reaction that swelled my sinuses, preventing the fluid in my ears from draining properly. He gave me a nasal steroid and it cleared up, slowly but surely. I could hardly walk and not exercise at all it made me so sick.
My mom also has had severe vertigo from lose crystals in her ears (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103463398).0 -
PS - Meclizine helps (it's OTC motion sickness medication). It'll make you a little tired though.0

Your diary is locked. How much are you eating?0
-
Yes, I have had positional dizziness since a mountain biking accident 24 years ago. For me it is positional. apparently the crystals in the inner ear can come loose from head trauma. A good ENT can do the Eply maneuver on your head and reposition them.
Not sure what it would be from on a treadmill though. How's your nutrition? Stopping Dairy temporarily helped me. Are light headed perhaps?
A GOOD EAR NOSE AND THROAT DOC IS A MUST. REGULAR MD's may miss an inner ear problem.
Took me many Dr's and years to figure out my problem. I still have to manage it. Though I quit paying ENT to reposition the crystals, too expensive! Good Luck!0 -

exactly my thought... I would get dizzy if not eating ENOUGH...0 -
Your diary is locked. How much are you eating?
I'd say at least 2000-2500 calories a day. It's all from fruits, veggies, whole grains, juicing.
Sometimes more sometimes less0 -

Interesting you bring that up.... I've actually thought I've had an inner ear problem with my right ear. If there's a really loud noise it's almost like static sounding happens in that ear. Not only do I hear static, but if i tap the top of my head on the left side, it sounds similar to there being water stuck in my ear or something. I've had it checked out by a few doctors who've simply just looked into my ear and they say it looks normal. I however completely disagree with them. I'll look more into that, I wasn't aware that that could cause dizziness this severely.0 -

Are you sure you are getting enough iron? It could be anemia.
I'd also go to an ear, nose and throat doctor. I had labrythitis for a while, which is an inner ear disorder, that made me dizzy all the time.0 -

You and another user have just recently brought to my attention my ear problem. I wasn't aware that it could cause dizziness and feeling faint as badly as I've been experiencing. My nutrition is very good. I'm vegetarian but I eat if say at least 2000 calories daily. Mostly from fruits, veggies, raw green juices, whole grains, all the good stuff. I try not to consume too much dairy...
Thanks for your reply0 -
Talk to your doctor about seeing an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor and also a Neurologist, if nothing is found in your blood work. If you feel dizzy with motion and feel nausea there could definitely be an inner ear/ vestibular concern. Keep track of how you feel, when you experience the dizziness, anything else that feels "off" to give your doctor an accurate description.
The loose crystals mentioned before in the inner ear is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and can be treated by balance specific Physical Therapy and a particular treatment called the Epley maneuver. Your ENT or Neuro can refer you for this.
I had a similar experience starting a little over a year ago, and went through all of the above plus more and sitting at a vestibular disorder as my current diagnosis. Not to say you will have this too, just to say that you're on the right track with talking to your doctor and to continue to talk to him and request help. Good Luck, hope you are able to feel better soon!0 -

Since the doctor ruled out heart problems and low blood pressure, I think the problem is that you aren't eating enough sodium.
Now that I follow a strictly whole foods diet, my sodium intake hovers around 600. Low sodium causes severe dizziness0 -

Hmm I thought about anemia. Definitely going to get some blood work done hopefully within the he next couple days, definitely want to check out my ear as we'll. I really appreciate all of the shared information!!0 -
Sounds fairly serious. Call your doctor. Take it from someone who has tried to self-diagnose, its a really bad idea. Like you I thought: oh I have anemia, oh maybe its just low blood pressure, or maybe its my diet. When it got so bad I couldn't run anymore, I called. You should too. I'm fine now by the way, but I wouldn't be if I had not called the doctor.0

Oh! Yes, get your hearing checked also! The static may be tinnitus, and can be pretty common but what you're describing is something to check. An Audiologist will perform a standard hearing test but also check pressure on your ear drum and other tests that will check sound transmission of your 8th nerve. None of these are invasive, no needles or blood involved!
Our vestibular balance centers are anatomically part of the inner ear, which is why there is an association with your hearing. http://www.audiologyawareness.com/hearinfo_iebalance.asp - good overview of the system.0
