fitness facilities

I have never belonged to or gone to a fitness facility/gym. I have never really worked out. I do enjoy walking, but I seem to do this only sporadically.

I am wondering if I should try a gym, or if it is worth the $$. If I do join a gym, what should I look for?

The last thing I want is to feel like I am in high school again. I want to be able to come tot he gym, and put in some time with out worrying about how I look, etc.

Can anyone share their experiences?

  • I used to go to the Y. I just did my own thing, sometimes went to fitness classes, enjoyed it but it's only worth it if you faithfully got 3 - 4 times a week I'd say. Over the winter I got lazy and let the membership go since I was only going once a week. The treadmills, elliptical trainers are good and weight machines.
