Rest days

How many rest days do you take a week if any? I feel like I am slacking if I take one a week.

It depends sometimes I take one, but I usually don't. It really depends on how I feel. Sometimes my body needs a rest once in a while.

During T25 one day a week, currently 4 days rest a week, the other 3 I am doing SL5x5 with 30 mins of cardio afterwards. Seems to be working at the moment.

    4 days - sometimes 3 if I go for a run.

    Thursday- and Sunday.
Technically I have 4 days "off" but I'm not really off- I have dance the other days- but officially it would be 4.

I used to lift 5 days a week- switching to only 3 a week was crazy- stressed me out for the first two or three weeks. But if you are progressively lifting- that *kitten* gets heavy and you need all the sleep/rest you can get.

Usually two. For me, a rest day doesn't mean doing nothing though...not that there's anything wrong with that either...but I prefer to look at my rest days as active recovery days.

You have to realize that while exercise is good for the body, it is also bad for the body in that it breaks the body down...you need rest from vigorous activity to allow that recovery to happen. Recovery is really where the magic happens...that's really where you make your fitness gains. Really, your rest days should be viewed as just a part of your overall training/fitness regimen as they are just as important as the exercise itself.

I still walk around 3 - 3.5 miles or so on my rest days and I'm generally active...Wednesday and Sunday are my rest days. I am required by my wife to have one weekend day to be a rest day to get **** done in the yard or fix broken stuff around the house, etc. Wednesday is a nice mid week rest day for me and gets me feeling good for my Thursday sprints on my bike in the morning and my lifting session in the evening.

I take one intentional one, usually Sunday. Sometimes if I'm really sleep deprived I'll take another.

I take two, sometimes three. I work hard in the gym when I'm there, I love my rest days.

It really depends on what your training goals are and how you're training; it's not really something any of us can directly answer. You definitely need time to recover, sometimes it's not about how much you do but rather what you don't do that leads to success. Take your rest days and eat right, if anything the rest days should help you "want" your next training day more and then you'll kick more *kitten* in the gym that way.

Personally, I'm more about performance training and I train 4-days a week and either take Mon, Thu, Sun off or Wed, Sat, Sun off. Also, on your off days do a good stretching routine to help stay loose and circulate blood flow. Something like Joe DeFranco's Limber 11 and Simple 6 are great stretching & mobility routines that can help with that and it's like getting a little exercise in. If you do them right, it should take you at least 15-min's if not 20 - 30 min's.

I used to take one per week, but since I started Stronglifts, my body is forcing me to take two.

Today is my rest day. Probably Thurs, too. But I am running 20+ miles tomorrow. I'm no slacker but I'm not dumb, either. Listen to your body. It's not a contest.

Great question M! I rest Saturday and Sunday....need to. My little girl has soccer tennis and everything under the sun. Two days though works for me.

I rest if I'm tired, maybe once a week. But I usually don't rest because I get off track easily. I don't over exert myself so it isn't necessary to rest.

I am at the very end of the runners world run streak, so I haven't had a rest day in over a month. Then again, I only run (just some light strength stuff at home maybe twice a week), so it's not like I'm doing hours of workouts a day. But once I get off this run streak after the July 4, I'll be resting one or two days a week again. However I haven't had any problems with energy, injury, etc. without having any rest days, so I won't be clamoring to sleep in, surprisingly.

One or two days. But I usually do a big stretch or gentle yoga session. And maybe a slow walk.

I have two... sort of. I usually end up doing some sort of exercise on them anyway though. I can't help it; I'm restless.

I just do cardio stuff so I never really feel the need to take one. Sort of hold the opinion that it's worse to sit on the couch all day than to walk around and move, but that's just me. If I was doing strength training I would definitely spread those out and rest the muscles but taking rest days from cardio seems like overkill to me.

As of right now, I only have one official rest day. But when I stop teaching swim lessons I'll have 2-3 rest days a week and I will love every single minute. I probably won't even do cardio on my rest days.
