staying motivated?

I have been a yo - yo dieter since I can even remember. I am 20 and have never been thin or fit. The longest I have ever kept with a lifestyle change was 3 months. I'm currently on day 21 and wondering how people stay motivated to being healthy for years?

Motivation is fleeting. Others can cheer you on, but when push comes to shove - it's all on you to make this happen. The thing that finally worked for me was building strong habits around my healthy eating and exercise. Habits are what keep people going.
Get up every day, log your food, follow your plan, be active doing something you like to do. You'll have slips now and then - but the important thing is you keep going. After a while, it will all be just part of your life. Next thing you know - you're enjoying life.
Stopping the yo yoing is about learning moderation and delayed gratification. They're skills that anyone can practice and master. Once you do, things will be much easier.
I'm in year 3 and have lost a little over 100 pounds. It can be done. Good luck!0 -
Hear where your motivation is. You said you have never been thin. Don't you like to look in the mirror and see what thin looks like on you. You said you were never fit. Would you like to do see yourself in a fitness completion and doing pretty well in it.
If you need to write on your mirror everyday your weight goal. If you truly want that weight goal you will become a fanatic and every single choice you make is for that weight goal. Yes you might have setbacks. Actually there is no such thing. I know how to treat a lot of setbacks with what follows in the next few days after it.
Find fruits and veggies you love to eat and eat them everyday.0
