Low carb; especially diabetic friends wanted

I am looking to befriend anyone who is following low carb protocols to share experiences and knowledge . I started slowly reducing carbs after reading Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution and have since read a pile of books and done a lot of online researching. I have already learned a tremendous amount but there is a lot more to know.
I am a 12 year type 2 with a rampant family history that went all ADA low fat/high complex carbs in 2013 and was rewarded in early December with my worst HgbA1c ever at a 7.9. Since then I've been on a learning and health journey because the doc wanted to bless me with a new Rx for Victoza on top of my Metformin. Well, since I am not interested in more drugs nor pancreatic cancer, I decided that I must be doing something wrong (along with the ADA) and decided to educate myself.
I got on Google knowing that there was a better way and found Dr. Bernstein's book which started the ball rolling to better health. NO doctor has ever mentioned this wonderful resource or carb sensitivity to me in 12 years of Type 2 or 23 years ago when I had gestational diabetes which I have also learned is quite typical of the medical establishment. I followed Dr. Bernstein's recommendation to test and log EVERY food and fhe first thing that I learned is that I am highly carb sensitive. ALL grains and dairy other than butter or heavy cream spike my glucose so out the door they went.
I had been tested for Celiac a few years ago when I had an IBS diagnosis and it was negative but I am gluten sensitive and lactose intolerant both. Over the last 6 months I have read and researched daily and lost 20 lbs plus dropped my HgbA1c to 6.5 in under 2 months by early March (no tests since but it is still falling). I have been off my meds since late March with readings far better than with carbs and metformin and solidly in the official pre-diabetic range now. My goal is to lose another 50-60 lbs total and get my HgbA1c under 5.0 without meds.
Since mid-May I have been trying low carb/high fat and I have amazing energy and no more IBS, GERD or insomnia among other things.
My hubby has been on LCHF for 3 weeks and lost 18 lbs with a total loss in 2 months of 29 lbs.
So if you also took the red pill, add me as a friend and we will stay in Wonderland and go down the rabbit hole together!

I added you! I just got my diabetes diagnosis June 12th. I'm 21 (almost 22) and a type 2. I went to the er for a sore throat and found out I had ketoacidosis and was close to a coma. My A1C was 13. You see, I was losing from how bad my blood sugar was so I assumed since I was losing I could eat whatever I wanted. I had no idea I was diabetic.
I'm currently on metformin, lantus, and novolog. But we are slowly lowering the novolog with hopes to get off of it in October.
I'm tracking all my meals and eating between 12-40 grams of carbs per meal. I've already lost 10 pounds since I left the hospital and feel better than ever! My blood sugar has not been above 140 (except one incident where i accidentally drank carmel coffee) and is normally between 85-110.0 -
I am so glad that you are feeling better! That is a scary situation and is a great life lesson on how sneaky
this condition can be because you cannot rely just on how you feel-ever. According to Dr. Bernstein, your daily average was a whopping 385.5! I have a family friend who doesn't eat properly and her numbers go up over 400 and her only symptom is needing to urinate so she thinks that she is "okay" so again, you can't go by how you feel as it is notoriously inaccurate.
I never had the dubious "benefit" of losing any weight due to my diabetes and 12 years ago my doctors only casually mentioned to watch my diet and exercise (they still do today, sigh). I was angry when I was diagnosed because they never gave me any tools to work with and they were supposed to know! It was all very vague.
Get yourself a copy of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution ASAP. I had to find that on my own and it is a great resource chock full of everything that you need to know. Most diabetes books from those that tell you how to survive your first year to cookbooks are all full of low fat and high carb ADA recommendations. Bernstein has the real information and the patient records to back it up.0 -
I don't have diabetes but I have followed a low carb diet for the past 8 or 9 years. I stick to less than 60 a day. I'll try to help if I can. I follow the diet/lifestyle approach of Natural Hormonal Enhancement, though I've cut out the carb load portion since I'm focusing on calories now and the book has the common low carb notion of not counting calories for whatever reason.0

Hi! I don't have diabetes but hubby does... I went low carb a year ago and am 5 lbs away from my weight loss goal of. 50 lbs... For over. 15 years I was told I have IBS but 80% of those daily tummy issues were gone after cutting back on carbs... For me I have been loosely following Jorge Cruise's The 100 diet... Loosely because I do eat some fruit.0
