How can I listen to music while biking?

I love biking and listening to music at the same time. However, I always have to wear a jacket with pockets to hold my iPod (it's an iPod Touch 4g so it's pretty big). And none of my pants have pockets either (unless I wear jeans, which I don't particularly favor while riding). Any ideas on where I can put it without wearing a bulky jacket? Thank you! :)

Are you biking on the roadways? If so, I suggest not listening to music while you're doing that for safety reasons.

If not, you can get an arm strap for your iPod touch. I have one that is excellent for biking and running. It straps around your arm.

    I second the arm strap!

Nope, it's a flat trail made specifically for bikers/runners :) No cars whatsoever.

This is why I bought an ipod shuffle. They guy at the store was confused, but I wanted something with a clip and not as heavy.

Body Glove or similar companies make arm cases/straps; fanny pack or if you use a camelback. I long ago use to velcor my MP3 player to the handlebars.
As has been stated for safety if on the roads do not block out your surroundins, some sates actually have laws prohibitting the use of headphones while on the roadways. If you insist either go monophone or wear the earphones very loose.

If I need to bike somewhere (IE school), I usually leave out one earphone so I can hear stuff better and I turn down my music. I will check out those arm straps! Thanks everyone!

I don't like the tan lines that the arm bands leave, so I normally tuck it in my bra. Kinda gross, but it gets the job done! Another option is, on one of my bikes, if I have a handlbar bag it fits in there and the ear buds still reach. Third option: I use my husband's nano, which has a clip.

(Speaking of clips, I think a lot of the cases have a clip built in. My old one did. That would probably be classier than stuffing it down my bra!)

Buy and wear a cycling jersey...three pockets in the back. Or buy a small handlebar bag. There are ones that fit right on the intersection of your handlebars and the stem. The bags tend to be cheaper...can be found for $10 or so. Either option also give you a place for your house/car keys and ID.

I suggest you ALWAYS ride with one ear open. You never know when another cyclist may want to pass you.

I use my phone for music and have an arm strap for it. You can get them for a small price of eBay and Amazon.

Please one ear bud only (at the most) while biking outside. You need to be able hear other bikers, runners and walkers out on the path.
  • Costco (in Canada, at least) sells athletic tanks with a built in pocket that fits a ipod nano perfectly! and they're only $14.

I use the arm band but instead of wrapping it around my arm I wrap it around my handlebars/bike frame. :) No tan lines, and I don't like it on my arm, I find it annoying, but this way it's still held snugly. Otherwise I second the handlebar bag, then you can put your phone/ID in it too.

Use a handlebar mount, with little speakers on the handlebar. NOT headphones.

Y'all should check out FreeWavz. They have environmental listen through that you can customize so you can listen to music and the environment around you. You can customize each ear too! They are on Kickstarter now but I think it's a very sweet product and would be revolutionary if they got funded! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/freewavz/freewavz-smart-earphones-with-built-in-fitness-mon
