Hey! I just started here on Tuesday. Excellent site shown to me by an excellent person <3

Anyhoo, it feels good to have control over what I'm eating and to know EXACTLY what it "costs" calorie wise.

I do have a question though. I am an elementary school teacher. I am walking practically all day long. I can count that as 2 or 3 hours of light walking for exercise, right?

Oh and on a side note....playing the piano for 30 minutes burns 111 calories! Who knew!

Glad to be here...sooo many awesome stories to read and be inspired by. I plan to lose 50 to 60 pounds this year. THIS IS THE YEAR! :)

Cheers <3

    Hey!

You are right!, this is our year!!! :-)

I think the walking thing is more of an indication of your lifestyle and will count towards your basic daily calorie needs. I could be wrong but when I worked out my daily calorie needs it took into consideration my daily habits, eg. office job, salesman, etc, I think it factors that into it.

    Good Luck,

If I remember correctly, you would have entered whether your job was active, sedentary, etc when you signed up (I should remember this as it was only a week ago for me but I already forget;) and that would have been calculated in to your daily calorie allowance. So... you should only add the 'extra' exercise you do. Hope that helps!

I don't know though. Teaching is different than an office job. I am standing and walking from 8am to 2:30pm. Up and down stairs, the yard, to the office.

It's not sedentary but it's not "active" persay. LOL I am so confused.

So I was counting 2 hours of slow pace walking. "teacher" was not an option for daily calorie stuff.

Teacher isn't specifically one of the examples, but you can just make a best guess...

Sedentary: Spend most of the day sitting (e.g. bank teller, desk job)
Lightly Active: Spend a good part of the day on your feet (e.g. nurse, salesman)
Active: Spend a good part of the day doing some physical activity (e.g. waitress, mailman)
Very Active: Spend most of the day doing heavy physical activity (e.g. bike messenger, carpenter)

Probably "Lightly Active", what do you think?

I bought a pedometer a few weeks back to track my steps and as a car salesman I walk around 7 miles a day on average, I think if you put active or very active then you will be on the right path for that as the calculations are not that far apart to be honest.

See it as a bonus, if you are exercising and doing all that work too.

HA! I put down lightly active...then counting 2 hours of slow pace walking. Probably balances out. My feet are throbbing as I write this...so I know I am on them a lot all day :) Should change that? Who knows. I also walk a ton when I'm home because I have a 2 year old.

    Thanks! You've helped a lot.

Also, why don't they have.... (TMI) sex as an exercise option!?
