Hi, i was wondering if anyone had trouble with feeling embarrasement while exercising and how you got past it? Thank you for all your help. i know my husband and family don't laugh at me but for some reason i can't get the thoughts out of my head and it makes it hard for me to stay on track...

When I go to the gym, I'm the biggest girl there. No, strike that. I'm the biggest PERSON there. But the thing is, I'm there for me. I'm there for MY health. If anyone is going to stare, I let them. Maybe they will be inspired to go a little longer, work a little harder. I just put my music on and do my thing. It takes some time to get past the self conscious thing, and I have it sometimes still, but I just push through it.0

do you exercise in front of people? i know nobody laughs at me, unless i do something crazy or goofy, but i prefer to walk with my 2 year old or get on the treadmill, or when nobody is around. i also seem to get more focused and get finished quicker without distractions. good luck to you, and feel free to friend me.0

i know how you feel, i can't help but think that everyone is looking at me huffing and puffing on the elliptical and just thinking horrible things about me. but dang it, I'm trying. I'm trying really hard not to let it get me down because i know in about 6 months I'm gonna be rockin it at that gym.0

Just 'do it' for yourself...Don't worry what other people think...you are trying and that is all that matters - use your embarasment as a tool for being more determined to work harder....I'm not sure what sort of exercise you are doing i.e at a gym, in classes, etc but at the gym I am the biggest there and I usually stand at the back during classes - I find the people at the gym are encouraging - Good luck to you you wil get there (a pound at a time if need be) :flowerforyou:0

Today was my first day in the gym in a couple of years and I went to a Zumba class with a friend. I was the biggest in the class, and by the time I got there, the only spots left were up front. Of course I thought everyone was looking at me. At one point our kids came to the the window and were pointing and smiling (ages 7, 9 & 9). On the way home I asked my daughter why they were laughing at us. She told me that they were not laughing, but that they were so excited and proud that we were there getting healthy. Sometimes I think the laughing, pointing, judgements are only in our heads.0

Thank you all for the suggestions and encouraging words. I haven't been to a gym in a while i used to attempt running in the evening in our neighborhood but we recently moved and i'm not comfortable with that in the new neighborhood yet. So i would like to try the gym and maybe classes.0
