100lbs to lose diagnosed with Hypothyroidism

HI I am looking for active folks who have similar goals (stated above)don't mind sharing their diary. I have found that seeing others diaries help me with better food choices or new food choices. If you have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and have some helpful tips or would like to be my friend on MFP that would also be great. Thanks

Thanks for the friend request! I love looking at people's food diaries as well.

I had thyroid issues last year but mine was in the opposite direction - hyperthyroidism (overactive). Strangely this can backfire on you weight-wise because your metabolism is in overdrive so you are ALWAYS hungry and are reaching for the most heavy stuff you can find to satisfy your hunger, so I actually gained weight when it was overactive! And then I was put on thyroid inhibiting meds which helped curb the appetite but of course also dampened the metabolism, causing further weight loss issues.

My thyroid numbers are stable now, and I just was able to go off the thyroid inhibitor meds, so I'm hoping that will help get my metabolism back to normal. Happily my appetite is still normal so I'm looking forward to hopefully keeping my thyroid happy for a while! Anyway, I know this isn't your experience, but I can at least sympathize with screwy thyroid numbers messing up your body!

Good luck, and I look forward to following you!

Hello There. I won't be any help with the food diary lately. After 500 days on MFP I decided to start testing out "intuitive eating" to see if I had learned enough to not log. haha. :)
Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I started with 100 pounds as my weight loss goal and I have no thyroid function. I take 300 mcg of Synthroid. My weight loss journey has been very long, maybe because of that...maybe not. I'm not really sure. I lose weight verrrrry slowly, and I suspect that it is a part of having a slower metabolism due to the hypothyroidism. The thing is, though, that if you keep going, no matter how slowly the weight drops, you will eventually drop the entire amount. Slow is better than nothing. If you can accept that it will take a really long time, your journey will be so much easier. Every day doesn't have to be perfect. You don't have to skip social situations. You have to figure out a way to make this fit around your life and make your life fit around this. Good luck! Even though I don't log my food for now, I still check in every day with my MFP friends (friends are super important, too!), so feel free to add me if you'd like. :)

I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). I lost way more slowly than most MFPers, so be patient! But I did it just like everybody else—by logging everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly.

The advice in this post worked for me: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-Sexypants

    MFP has two thyroid groups:

PS. My diary is public to all—not just friends. Per my endocrinologist, I eat anything I want. Eat "healthy" (whatever that means to you) 80% of the time. Fit yummy, portion-controlled treats into your calorie goal. Deprivation can lead to bingeing.

It's all about portion control. Get a food scale, and weigh everything you eat—even packaged food. Measure every liquid with calories.
