polar H7 with map my fitness question

when using the polar H7 (or H6) paired with map my fitness, will the heart rate during the workout be used to calculate calories burned? map my fitness calculates my calories a lot lower than my current HRM, probably because of my short legs, which have to really go just to get to 2.5 mph.
also will map my fitness sound an alarm if heart rate goes too high?
thanks!

Hi again!
Never tried the app you're talking about, sorry, maybe this helps anyway... To take advantage of the appropriate heart rate / calorie calculations, the best app to use is probably the one that goes with this HRM : Polar Beat .
As far as the reviews and product info goes, they give the most accurate results. I've compared it with several others, and some gym equipment, and calories were pretty consistent for me.
For GPS tracking turn on the GPS on your phone, and select the supported sport from the listing in the app. For voice guidance go in 'settings' and turn on or off. It can give you heart rate, heart rate/fitness/fat zones...whatever training method you chose.
Another nice feature about Polar Beat is, that you can set up an account (free) on the Polar website, and when you log into your phone app, the training results are automatically synced. You don't need to buy another gadget to pug into your computer.

I wore the HRM on the hay field 3 weeks ago....o boy, you should see the GPS mapping and heart rate on this one...nice calorie burn, too...lol
Happy training!0 -
thanks - does polar beat give an audible alarm when you go over on your heart rate? i have it in my phone, but don't currently have a HRM that works with it.
i'd still like to use my fitness pal, as it gives an accurate distance of walks, rides and runs, and gives a cool map of your walk, and also posts the numbers on my fitness pal, but polar beat could be okay to use along with my fitbit or a pedometer.0 -
It will not only give an alarm... depending on your volume setting, it'll tell you or yell at you in a complete sentence....lol
Never asked HR, that's nothing that has concerned me so far, but it has talked and told me everything else, such as distance, calories, duration, whether I improve fitness or burn fat... It has 5 heart rate zones, and they are easy to follow during a run...big bright bars on the screen...still clearly visible, even shaky hands and heavy breathing at around 4 miles....hahaha... This way, I know about which intensity I'm working at.
The GPS has been accurate within a few yards on the track. Nice map with it, too.
Today is my off-day, but I'll turn on the features tomorrow, and will gladly report back to you...0 -
thank you for the info, and i look forward to hearing from you again0

And here it goes..
There is no feature to pre-set a single target heart rate number for an alarm. (Targets are speed, distance, time, calories..)
The settings for your vital stats require an entry for you max heart rate. The estimate here is simply 220-age. This is used to calculate the calories and the heart rate zones for your training.
There is no difference in this estimate for male/female.
For a better estimate, you can use the feature 'fitness test', and it will calculate your personal precipitated max heat rate from your performance during the test.
Is there any particular reason, why you need to be focused on your hear rate this way? (Unless it's doctor's orders, of course..) Generally, a heart rate is very personal, and not really an indicator of your fitness level. While your fitness improves, your heart rate for the same activity will eventually be lower over time. You will gradually have to step up your effort to reach the same or better results.
There are recommendations, depending on activity, in which heart rate zone (%-range of your maxHR) you can move around to get the best results. It's just not focused on a single HR number.
Looking at your info here, for your weight loss mission, you'd probably be ok with the announcements 'burning fat' or 'improving fitness'...after all, what good would it do, having a HR alarm go off 5 times halfway up a hill with a bike...you gotta get up there, anyway, right....
About the settings for any HRM...as you are losing weight, don't forget to change the vital stats and put in the lower number. Less body weight means less calories burnt....means workout harder to keep up the burn....arrgghh.... But it also means lower calories in your food tracker/daily allowance... Less food, more work...we just can't win....lol
Good luck! Train safe!0 -
although it's improving, my heart/cardio isn't in as good condition as the rest of me - i tend to drive my heart rate over its max easily, and want to avoid doing that. i'm doing better than i was, but my big issue (and i';m over 55, btw) is keeping my heart rate at a safe level, so that's why i ask about an alarm.
thanks for the info - i really appreciate it0
