Sticky situation! - All feedback welcome and appreciated!

Hello MFP community,

So over the past 2 years I've moved from weight class 13st 6lb to 15st 6lb. I'm currently 6 foot 1, and slightly active.
I'm currently aged 18 and I'm a full time student, and web developer.

I want to lose weight because I'm not happy with myself currently, and it makes me feel slow and sluggish.

I do basketball with friends Monday - Wednesday for around 3-4 hours on and off. On monday, wednesday and Friday's I do 30-1 hour jogs, and slowly up the distance I go, I also do 10 minutes of intense skipping with my girlfriend.

I don't seem to be losing weight, if anything putting on weight. I've tried eating right, and recently started adding what I eat to the diary.

Now heres the sticky situation, I have long term injuries in each knee, on the 15th I'll be having a operation to sort it out, while working out I get pains, but I work through it, because I'm determined to lose weight but it's just not happening!

The questions I have are:

- Why aren't I losing weight currently?
- How can I stay the same weight, if not lose weight after my operation (Won't be able to run on it for a while)?
- What do you recommend doing to help me?

If you have any advice or feedback please let me know, and if you need more information, again let me know!

Thanks, Rhys Adams!

When people don't lose weight, the usual reason is they underestimate their calorie intake. So start logging all your food, and measure/weight it too for accuracy.

After your surgery, maybe swim, walk, or bike, depending on what your surgeon allows.
Fat loss only requires a calorie deficit, not exercise.

spend a few days logging every bite of food you put in your mouth. you'll probably need a food scale to do this. once you know what your current calorie intake is, then cut out 500 calories, and you'll lose a pound a week. it really is that simple. if you drink soda, there's a chance just replacing it with diet soda or water will be enough to do it.

Truly, it's not easy to lose weight with exercise alone, you must adjust what you eat as well. You need to measure your portions and log everything you eat for at least a couple of weeks to get a baseline average for calories a day. If you set your MFP loss goal to a lb a week, the program will automatically deduct 500 calories a day from your total calorie allotment.

To keep from gaining during recovery, you must stick to your calorie goal and not over eat. Follow your doctor's rehab plan for exercising after surgery.

Losing weight is 80% diet, 20% exercise. You need to track your food intake.
