Supplements for Women

Hello I am a 29 y/o woman who has been weight training anywhere from 3-5 days/week for about 9 months. I have recently made the decision to really amp up my workouts in order to get that lean, cut body like the chicks on the cover of Oxygen magazine. In addition to the weight training I do anywhere from 1-3 hours of cardio (depending on my schedule) about 5-6 days/wk. I know all this cardio may be working against me and actually breaking down muscle since most of it is pretty high intensity, but I am in love with the cardio classes at my gym and not sure I want to give them up or slow down!

I've been reading a lot online, particularly the bodybuilding.com website, to get help with proper supplements. I just recently purchased Glutamine and CLA (Conjugated Linoleic acid). I want to also get BCAA (Branched Chain amino acids). I already do protein shakes about 2-3x/day. I was just wondering what other women think of these supplements and if they take them. Any side effects?

I am not a female, but I'm pretty knowledeable about supps. You will not have any side effects from glutamine, CLA, or BCAAs unless you have some unkown allergy.

I highly recommend BCAAs for those doing alot of cardio. This will help spare muscle loss. You can take prior to cardio and sip on them during your actual session. There are some BCAA products made especially for this purpose.

I'm interested in this top too ...

Where do you purchase most of your supplements from? I have issues with large pills, so it caught my attention when you mentioned sipping on BCAAs. I assume they come in a form that can be mixed in drinks? That would be great!

Read up on CLA, the sources I used said no side effects and to take 3x per day the brand I was using. I kept nothing that I seemed to have worse moles and brown spots on my skin. Upon further research I found that it can cause a fatty liver, so backed down to just 1x per day, problems went away.

I'm a firm believer in CoQ10 - might want to look into that.

I also have a friend who swears by coral calcium trace minerals, I personally haven't tried them yet, but worth reserach.
  • Thank you for the info! I'm definitely going to get the BCAA. I can sip on them while I do cardio machines, but def can't while in a cardio class. I take spin and zumba and also teach zumba.

Any input on a good thermo fat burner? My brother is pretty into weight training but won't go near a fat burner so he couldn't suggest any. Online I've been reading about Tight and Lipo-6. I just want some temporary help to lean out more.

Just buy green tea and caffeine in capsule form. This will help kick up the heat!! Take 30 min prior to class/cardio.
