Vegan: Am I eating too many carbs?

Good Morning,
I'm new here. I've been dealing with my weight for years and years. I have been much heavier than I am now...and I've also been about 20 pounds less than I am now, though never been able to say I've been a "normal" weight.
I adopted a vegetarian lifestyle about a year and a half ago, and since January, have decided that a vegan lifestyle makes a lot of sense to me. So I eat nothing with a face or a mother. I also gave up sugar (because of it's addictive properties on me), as well as white flour.
I follow the Overeaters Anonymous program....so it's 3 meals a day, no snacks for me. and I'm dealing with the emotional stuff that has made me turn to food for a long time.
So here's the deal....My first month on the program Jan to Feb, I lost 9 pounds. just by cutting snacks, no sugar, no white flour...vegan.
the next month 1 pound. the month after, up a pound...and then nothing for 3 months.
So my sponsor said to come here, and have me track my food, just to make sure my portions are in control, that I was staying around 1200 calories. I guess mindset-wise, I think that since I'm not eating meats, cheeses, etc...that i can have BIG salads and plates of veggies and such, fruits, grains...but I think that I'm possibly getting too many carbs.
So I'm here and tracking. : )
Where can I find out how many carbs are too many?
Any other vegans out there?
Hope you're all having a wonderful day!!

this should only be a question is you have issues with insulin and if that were the case it's a question for your doctor.
if you dont have issues with insulin then as many as you want within your calorie goal0 -
Are you actually tracking your calories?
It doesn't matter how many carbs you eat. It doesn't matter if everything you eat is 'healthy.' If your goal is weight loss, you need to figure out your TDEE and eat less than that number.0 -
google keto-vegan or keto-vegetarian.
It's tough, but it can be done if this is your choice.
There's a keto group here on MFP too, use the search function to find it, your question would get more useful responses there :drinker:
ETA: yes, TDEE must also be taken into account, you should google a keto calculator to figure your macros & go from there. For weight loss, burn more calories than you take in, no matter what the source.0 -
If you don't have a medical condition then carbs are not evil.
I'm vegetarian and most of my diet is carbs.
Do you own a food scale? Are you weighing your foods?

Thank you to all of you who reached out.
Currently, no, I am not tracking my calories (til today). And yes, I do have a food scale, but i haven't used it since my time at weight watchers. It's come out of hiding today as well. I'm looking at this as being very enlightening because I know my eyes can be very big, so i'm KNOWing (not thinking) that my portions have gotten larger. For example, this morning I had my shredded wheat and almond milk and measured one cup of the cereal....uh....that's it? yep....so I KNOW i was having more than that as a serving. so it's weighing and measuring for me and we'll see where we get!!!
Thanks to all for the links and information. I appreciate you all and the support.0 -
Whatever you change give it 6-8 weeks.
Take your measurements.
