First Week and I gained weight?!

Help!! I've been religiously tracking everything on here for a week. I hopped on the scales this morning, excited to see some progress, and I've gained weight
I feel better and think I look like I've lost a bit...could it be water retention? What could it be?
Feeling really rubbish
Thanks x

Calm down, it'll be okay!
First, are you tracking your calories? How many are you eating? Weighing and measuring everything that you eat with a food scale? Eaten a lot of sodium packed foods lately?
Have you recently started a new exercise or workout regime? Cause if you just started exercising it could be your muscles retaining water.0 -
I'm tracking my calories and weighing absolutely everything. I was way over on my sodium yesterday but the rest of the week I've been under. I'm eating 1650 a day. I haven't been great with the water drinking the last few days.
Might be TMI, but I'm about a week away from my period...could that be it? I started walking about 2 weeks ago.0 -
The salt the day before weigh in might be the issue.
Remember this is a long term process. Be patient.0 -
Two things stand out to me in your last post: You were way over your sodium intake yesterday and you haven't been drinking enough water. They lead me to think it's mostly water retention you're experiencing. Keep up the water intake if you want to avoid it. I'm sure this weight will be gone in no time if you just get back on track.
I've found that it's useful to track weight daily, certainly in the beginning of a weight loss journey. It helps you recognize why the weight goes up and down from day to day, and also week to week (e.g. if you are expecting your period), while still keeping an eye on overall weight loss. This is off course highly personal. If you're the type to be discouraged by any kind of weight gain, this might not be a good idea for you.0 -
If you're tracking your calories accurately, then don't worry about it too much. It could be natural fluctuations, water retention etc... How much have you gained?
It gets very frustrating, I know, but you just need to have faith in the process. Drinking lots of water and reducing carbs and sodium a bit will help the number move. But I'd say, go by how your clothes fit and how you feel, etc.
It might also be TOM, yeah. It usually causes water retention in my case, and many others from what I've heard.0 -
Thankyou for helping me put it in perspective. I've only gained 0.75lb, which is nothing. I was just hoping to see it go the other way!
I feel so much better, so I'll keep up the process and just try and drink more water. I don't have a lot to lose so it probably is a bit slower when it's the last 14lbs.
