Shoulder bursitis

I think I might have bursitis in my shoulder. I am calling my doctor tomorrow to get an appointment to confirm. If my suspicions are confirmed what are typical treatments and recovery times. I have my first 5k coming up August 2nd and don't want to fall behind with my running. It hurts too much to even consider running, I walked my dogs today using my other arm and had the injured one in a sling and I wanted to cry afterwards and the dogs were very good, didn't pull or anything. Thanks for any info.
