So I was struggling the last week or so with being sick and finally came out of it. The scale went up 1lb to 293. So feeing better and back eating the way I should yesterday it was 290 and today it was 288. Anyone see large movements like that? I know it willl probably go up a lb or so but that's still pretty good. I've seen it before but that was when I was doing crash diet stuff. I'm just watching calories now and even had a bacon cheese burger last night because I was out and starving but was under my calorie goal. Just seems odd to me or is this the way it's suppose to work.

My scale gives me a different number everytime i step on it.
I usually weigh at the same time each day......and I weigh myself several times and go with an average of all of them.
It can be a bit frustrating.......some water retention after eating a lot of salt can make you gain weight quickly too.0 -
Sometimes I notice larger fluctuations with water weight (often when I've had too much sodium the day before). That could be part of it.0

Its possible you were retaining fluids from being sick. You did mention the scale had gone up a little while you were sick. Just stay on track, you're doing great!0

My scale used to weigh different every time I stepped on it also. Got a new scale does not happen anymore. A lost less aggravation. And yes it can fluctuate a lot threw out the week.0

I am a daily weigher because I need/want the accountability. However, I realize that the scale does not always make sense and I look at overall trend. In terms of weight loss, I usually stay in the same general weight range and then finally, I will drop and miss a whole number on the scale. Also, I have noticed that if I have an unhealthy eating day that my scale will not show that for a couple of days. It is not an immediate up the next day. In any regard, I just keep at it and I am pleased when the number goes down and tell myself I need to work harder when the number is up.0

If I weigh daily my weight flucuates too. I usually try to weigh only once a week and try to do it at the same time of day.0

I do NOT weigh myself everyday. Way too confusing... to much change in the numbers. At the suggestion of my cousin, who's a registered dietician, I weigh myself once a week - the same day, the same time and with the same volume of clothes on (or not). It paints a fairly accurate picture this way.
But you also have to do what works for you & if daily weighing is it, okay - just remember our weight flucates within the day iteself and from day to day as well.0 -
i think everyone's weight can fluctuate quite a bit, throughout any given day and throughout the week. Too much sodium and mine will go up a pound or two, for sure. I weigh once a week now, I try to think long term goals. And, most importantly, I have a super-cool 3/4 length form fitting skirt that zips up in the front (like jeans) that I really want to wear out of the house. A month ago I couldn't zip it up, now.. well the leaving the house part isn't there yet, but I try it on every Friday and seeing the changes in how it fits is more telling than that stupid scale!! I plan on keeping it when it is too big for the same reason!!0

People who have problems with inflammation (due to allergies, excess sodium, hormones, whatever) can see a weight fluctuation of around 5 pounds in just one day. I am one of those people. I have to weigh myself only in morning after I get up and take an average over two or three mornings to get a guesstimate to track my progress.0

Thanks for all the advice. I feel I need to weigh every day for accountability or else I will use the excuse of I will catch up later in the week. My scale is pretty accurate and will shoe the same weight if I step off and on a few times and I do it the same time of day every day. I did put on my jeans straight out of the wash and what was getting tight is now fitting comfortably and almost a little loose. On the last notch in my belt and can't wait to wear my new one some day. So I will take it as probably some water retention and not get too happy until it holds for a couple of days. Thanks again everyone!0
