Low carb anyone?

Looking for a low-carb alternative to Atkins. I've always done Atkins in the past because it works. But would like some new ideas that don't include so much meat and fat. Low carb is the ONLY thing that works for me. I have no problem sticking to it but then life happens. Stress, etc. and I slowly but surely go back little by little until I start to feel bloated again, then go back to Atkins. Has anyone had success with low carb? Looking for new ideas. Thanks.

If Atkins and low carb works for you and has in the past why have you put the weight back on as that's what I'm guessing has happened. If you've put the weight back on it's not sustainable. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results. You want to eat in such a way that even if life becomes stressful those habits are so ingrained you stick to them. It's obvious that's not happening with low carb

I suggest taking a look at this thread. Good luck

I don't know if my eating would be considered low carb or not. I guess it's how you look at it. I re-started my weight loss May 1st and I haven't eaten any processed foods since then. I eat rice and potatoes, fruit and veggies. It's just clean eating. Nothing with more than 3 ingredients goes into my mouth. I haven't drunk anything but water since then either. If you go all in and mean business you can knock the weight off pretty darn fast. I re-started my weight loss May 1st and I've lost about 37 lbs since then. So that's about 15 lbs a month I guess? Totally doable.

Exactly. If you need to lose weight AGAIN, it didn't work.
  • Honestly, I will admit that I have a wicked Nutella addiction. I need to go to Nutella re-hab. I get off of that stuff (it's like a drug for me - seriously), and then I'm fine. But it starts with one little taste here & there as a special treat, until I'm scooping it out of the jar with a spoon. I cannot control myself around that stuff. I got rid of all the Nutella in the house yesterday, dumped it in the trash. I haven't gained all my weight back. But I feel it creeping up & it's time to stop & get a handle on it. I find that when I don't do low-carb, I get very gassy & bloated, downright uncomfortable & hungry, and don't lose a pound. I will check out that thread, thanks.

I'm doing carb cycling. I had such a hard time the last time I went no carb, I ended up binging like crazy., so I decided if I just limit my carb intake to 3 days a week, and only for breakfast, that works out much better for me. I generally try to stay between 20-25 NET carbs for those 3 days and have lost about 7 pounds so far.

I have grain less days and my evening grumps are horrid!!!

if you're wanting to cut out grains my suggestions are to choose whole grains when you do eat grains, cloud bread if you want to add protein and reduce carb intake with a sandwich and no grains with supper.

I have toast with my breakfast and oatmeal in my smoothie in the afternoon otherwise you do not want to be near me around 5- GRUMPY!

These are sustainable changes I've made to my diet long term.

You might have some glucose metabolism issues -- like insulin resistance -- if low carb is the only thing that works for you. It's a pretty common issue for those of us with IR -- gotta watch the carbs.

I'm not sure what you mean by an alternative to Atkins. Just eat high fat, low carb and you're fine. I've personally found spaghetti squash to be an awesome vegetable when watching carbs. You can put pasta sauce on it (especially creamy kinds like vodka sauce or alfredo) or thai curries with limited carbs. Throw some chicken or other meat in and you're set. Just focus on non-starchy veggies and low glycemic fruits and you should be good to go.

^^^So not really sure what you mean by having no problem sticking to it....
  • I can stay on it for months. But then I decide I'd like a treat. And I can have a treat, and get right back on it. But then I want another treat, then I get back on it. Then I get stressed out. Then I go off of it for awhile & eat things I shouldn't for a bit. But when I start to feel like I'm gaining some weight, I get right back on it, like I'm doing now. Any other diet, I can last a couple of weeks, at the most, and I end up binge-eating, and losing no weight at all.
