If your date (1st date) suggests "banging," I suggest you hand him a mallet, put him in front of a drum, and walk away.

If your date has a mallet and a drum handy during a first date, she's probably married to this guy.

Aquarium or arboretum or botanical garden or anywhere you can talk with a clear view of the exits.

That doesn't sound mind numbingly boring at all.

    A lucky woman too.

I just noticed OP is from Houston, and I use to live there, so here are some good local ideas for you.

Kemah boardwalk. Always fun, or visit all the little shops in Kemah
    Walk down the Galveston Seawall.
Go window shopping in the Galleria.
    Putput golf and games.
    Laserquest
    Ice skating in the galleria
    houston museum of natural science
    houston zoo
    museum of fine arts
    Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens
see something at the wortham or alley theater
    herman park
the water wall is pretty and there are the horse carriage rides
    space center houston

I know there are more but these popped into my head first. :)

But still more fun than blood tests and swabs at the public health clinic for your 2nd date.

Not sure it's ideal first-date material (because harnesses), but I have always fun on dates at the rock gym.

My favourite dates have been when I was trying something new like roller blading, ice skating, My first date with my boyfriend, we played pool and darts then went for a drive to a little stream in the middle of the night. It was perfect. I think the best dates are those that aren't planned out. Just let the day take you where it may

This speaks volumes about the type of women you date. :noway:
  • I find that even conversations over food can sometimes feel forced and turn awkward if you aren't hitting it off. Plus, dinners can put a hurtin on your bank account if you're dating others. I like hiking, museums, zoo, art exhibits, etc. for the 2nd date. When I ask a girl out on a first date, it's usually coffee in the midafternoon (unless you're friends first and have a comfort level with that person already). "Coffee" can be as quick as 30 mins or as long as a few hours. But I pick midafternoon so that if we're hitting it off I can ask her if she has dinner plans for the night right then and there. If she's in to you she'll say yes or take a rain check if she has plans. If she's not feeling the same way, it'll become pretty obvious if she doesn't say something like "oh I can't tonight but I'm free next weekend."

Do you have game stores (like..board games)...where you can actually pick a game and play? Those are really fun.

On my first date with my husband, we went to a bar and talked all night.. and then went back to his apartment which was across the street to continue our....................... discussions. :blushing:

No seriously, we just talked all night.. But then we ended up watching a movie and during the movie he pulled my hair.. i have NO idea why.. to this day even he has no clue as to why he pulled my hair... but he pulled it just the way I like it... That sucked me in...

My best first date was the City Museum in St. Louis, it's like a giant playground of tunnels, climbing walls, slides, including a giant slide that goes from the top floor to the bottom. The rooftop has even more stuff, it's not just for kids but you will feel like one. We were originally supposed to go ice skating but it was supposed to rain so it was switched, either one is a great idea.

I always wanted to go stargazing on a first date, but haven't done that yet.

Movie (with no snacks, of course)
Live sports event (NFL/NBA or similar)
Both followed by a walk around town
