One day at a time

Hi, my name is Vanessa, 25 years old and I’ve just hit 270 pounds. I’ve changed the way I’ve been eating but there is for sure room for more improvement. I used to never eat breakfast. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been forcing myself as it is a big part of eating healthy.

I’ve started going to the gym but I don’t really know what to do there. (Been mostly using the elliptical) What makes me take a step back is that I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back, which cause a bit of a problem when working. Because of this, I can’t really lift a lot of weight and the pain is unbearable if I make a wrong move.

I’ve seen a few of my friends using this site and I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve read many posts in the Community and I hope to make new acquaintance who are going thru the same thing as me.

Hopefully by sticking to myfitnesspal, eating right and exercising, I’ll be able to achieve my goal.

    Welcome, Vanessa!

I'd like to gently point out to you that if you're not a breakfast eater and find you have to force yourself to eat it, don't do it.
It will not affect you in a negative way. Don't suffer through it!

You'll get plenty of nutrition at your other meals. Improve on other things that you know need tweaking.

As for the gym … there should be someone there to help you with a program to suit your needs, I would think. Ask for help and I'm sure they'll be happy to guide you.

Good luck! Eat food. Move. Have Fun!

That is awesome, Vanessa! Another thing to try is speed walking (no jogging or running, maybe at an incline) on the treadmill to mix it up with your elliptical work. You'd be surprised at how much Hopefully, this won't aggravate your back. Getting your heart rate up is important. Good luck and good job!
