Hi all, looking for some advice please.
I have put on 9llbs in the last two months and cannot shift it. I think it is due to weight training and gaining muscle mass. I have lost 105 llbs over the past 3 years and since gaining my goal weight I tried to maintain/ tone by using heavier weights but a in think I have gained muscle mass as I am heavier and my thighs and core have expanded.
I eat around 1500-1700 calories a day weigh 129llbs and have stopped using the weights and only doing resistance work once a week. I run 4 times a week as per usual however have started to cycle too.
I am struggling to get the extra pounds off, my clothes are tighter on me and the scales go up each time!!
Can anyone offer any advice to what I could try?
Thanks in advance.

first off, congrats on the 100+ lb weight loss, thats awesome
have you changed up your exercise or eating routine lately? anything else in your lifestyle that may have changed?
its pretty hard to build muscle in a deficit for most people, so i think we can mostly rule out that.0 -
I know how hard it is to build muscle but it was the only thing that I could think of. Diet has stayed the same, maybe not as controlling as I now know the right things to eat and trying to be more relaxed about food. Exercise wise I do the same apart from the weights, but have added in cycling. Scared to do the weights In case it does build muscle as I am turning from nicely toned to too muscular for my liking in females. I am in training for a half marathon so the miles are my priority.0

ok, i think you know and have already answered the question. And gaining muscle is not likely it. You have become more relaxed with your diet and you now are consuming more calories than you are burning. After 100 lbs of loss, you are an expert at this already. Get back in control of what you eat and I would recommend you continue to lift. That was not the problem here....0 -
Thanks, everything you have said is right but I know I am not eating over my calories as mon-fri I track and then even on weekends I am extremely mindful.,when I say more relaxed I mean not freaking out if I have one treat more than I normally allow myself! Thanks for the advice:)))0

Gillian,
It is not my purpose to be mean with you; but magical elves are not leading to your weight and size gain. Even though you are trying to rationalize that you are not over calories, that is the ONLY possibility. This would be true if you were absolutely draconian in your counting. It would just lay blame on the under utilization of the calories you eat through changes in metabolic rate or your exercise burn. the first step to continuing your journey is accepting that you are consuming more calories than you are burning and then work on either or both the intake and the burn side of the equation to create a deficit. And just to be honest, I am the king of pretending I truly am tracking everything only to wake up from my fantasy with a 20 lb reversal that I am now re-losing
Good luck!0 -
Most people(men) are lucky to build 1 to 2 lb of muscle mass a month(without steroids of course). Could be water retention if your sodium intake or workout routine has changed. Also did you take a 3 day average for both weight measurements?0

This sounds logical to me. Also as your body adjusts to a workout you burn less calories during that same workout because you have a lower heart rate and more efficient metabolism so you may be over-estimating your workouts especially if they aren't as strenuous as they were 2 months ago.0
