I need help on how to and inspiration that I can change my body type. Im looking for tips, tricks, workout ideas and in general anything that helped you overcome your prior skinny fat issue.

Currently I am 147 lbs, 5'7 male and skinny fat. My goal is to get a low body fat % and be muscular enough so I can enlist in the national guard, get past training smoothly and accomplish another dream of mine.

At the start of July I been walking 8 miles 3 days a week in hopes to walk off the fat. Outside of that on days I do not walk, I have been doing about 10-20 min home workouts a day alternating between dumbbell and body weight exercises. Nearly 2 weeks into this routine I have mixed results. I look at the scale and see I lost around 2.5 lbs, however I know I have lost alot of muscle as well. When I look in the mirror I still see that droopy fat plaguing my problem areas.

So im just really confused in general. I want to change but I do not know how so if anyone who has gone through something similar or feels as if they could offer advice I thank you in advance.

You do realize that being muscular doesnt help you in Basic, right? That is just bulk. Focus on strength and endurance.

I'm in the stage you first described. I originally was close to 200lbs and it started with me drastically cutting calories not doing much else. You said it best, the scale was going down so that was good enough. Then around 170 or so lbs I realized I was still just as fat and I added cardio along with my food decrease. That got me down to my current weight and where I'm at right now. I'm to damn skinny in spots, little muscle and to much fat in others.

I looked up the strong lifts program and I can't do it because there are zero gyms near me (I'm in the country in the middle of no where) and I'm 18 and just can't afford to go out and buy a barbell set. I am really limited to home workouts with dumbbells and body weight (idk what exercises or which kinda is best in my situation to do).

For my diet I'm eating 1-2 large meals a day around 1100 to 1200 calories. I am 100% am going to start counting calories and aiming for the increase protein you mentioned.

    Thanks for the reply!
  • I have a book called "You Are Your Own Gym" that has designed programs for getting more muscular as well as the tools to design your own. It uses house hold items and your body weight. Great book!
