Been on here a few times with massive success but am unable to maintain once I get what I consider to be good looking. At some stage i would like to not have to diet every two years. Atleast i'm over deriving my value from my physical appearance. However I would like to fit in to the nice cashmere jumpers hiding in the drawer. I'm 35 now and down want to get lean again before I leave it too late and realise i'm old and my looks are gone.

  • I know right! I haven't quite given up.

I looked in my closet today and saw that I have an unbelievable amount of beautiful clothes that I can't wear anymore.

Stop reaching a goal and then reverting back to old habits. The best thing you can do is find a really sustainable plan to lose and then learn to be in maintenance. Also, what happens when you get to your goal? Realize that if the habits that are putting the weight back on remain - this is what will happen every time. Every time.

How do I know this? I am 56 and did the same thing for many years. This time, is different. I will be doing some variation of the plan I'm on now for the rest of my life. So, I did the only thing I could do. I made it a plan that didn't eliminate all the foods I love and most importantly, I worked on the reason I was overeating in the first place. I am not perfect - or even close. I've just finally realized that I do not want to go back to where I was.

Read this link, learn all you can from it, put it into practice. Get on with your life - you're young still - lots of good times still to be had.

    Hello there,
    Welcome back(?)
I've also quit MFP twice and I came back heavier each time...
If you'd like to add me feel free.
Question though, if you don't mind answering-
When you achieved your goal, how long did you maintain on MFP before quitting?
Personally I quit each time, when I got close to my goal. Not to give up, but because I convinced myself that I did not need MFP...
