Weekly TDEE

I have been faithful to plugging in my numbers to MFP for three weeks. I would consider myself "skinny fat," as I've seen many use that term. I decided I want to like the way I look when the clothes are off too :blushing:

I know it takes time, and I am reading things every day to learn more about the macros approach rather than just counting calories, and I really think each week I have a better handle on what I'm doing. My fiance says he is noticing changes, which is motivating, and I have moments where I feel it too, but there are areas I still want to see more definition (my arms are my area I would like to see the most change).

Yesterday was my three year anniversary with my fiance and we went out to a fancy restaurant and I thought, I'm not going to order a lame salad at this restaurant, and I didn't. We enjoyed the meal, I'm not even going to attempt to put in what I had though because I didn't measure it, and quite honestly the time it would take me to get the numbers somewhat accurately for what? to see just how much over I went for the day? I indulged and had GOOD food, not french fries and cheeseburgers, but food that you splurge for on a special occasion. Moving forward, should I build in a small deficit each day of the week to make up for the extra yesterday? If you go over your daily net, do you subtract it throughout the week to still hit your weekly goals?

Thanks!

Sometimes I do eat lighter to make up for a heavier meal in the week. Sometimes I eat lighter ahead of time in anticipation of a heavier meal later in the week. Sometimes I don't do anything and just chalk it up to I am human, food tastes good, and I don't have to agonize over something that happens occasionally. It depends on how I am feeling about myself at the time.

Hahah! I just realized how UNhelpful that was--I guess what I am saying is do what feels right for you, but don't feel like you have to "punsh" or deprive yourself for enjoying a night out! Just move on, don't make excuses for it and don't make it a habit!

just move on....overindulging on occasion is petty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. you need to be able to look at the bigger picture and not get too wrapped up in this kind of minutia. Nobody gets fat or became fat because they overindulged on occasion...you get fat when you overindulge with frequency. The human body is an awesome machine and has no problems utilizing excess energy on occasion...it's frequently consuming excess energy (calories) that overrides your bodies ability to use that energy and cause it to store fat...otherwise, your body really just wants to maintain.

in RE to body comp work, you really should be focusing on resistance training and understand that it is a long term investment...it's not an overnight kind of thing. people work for years, not weeks or months to achieve the body composition they like...and then of course you have to just keep going going to maintain that look.

I don't think it was unhelpful at all, I think it's pretty spot on advice to be honest.
