Attention walkers: Map My Walk app

A helpful tool for you walkers out there who don't have a pedometer or HRM!
http://www.MapMyWalk.com
Map My Walk has an andriod/iPhone app that takes your information (height, weight, etc.) and uses the GPS on your phone to track where you're walking, the distance, and then calculates your pace and calories burned! You can save all your completed workouts to your account.
You can also search their database of user-inputted routes if you want to try something new that someone else has recommended.
They also have Map My Run and Map My Ride (I think that's what it's called, for biking). I used it for the first time yesterday for a 4 mile walk and it works great!

I've been using mmw, but for the last 3 days I've walked the same route and it's given me a different distance each time. 2.22 miles, 2.24 miles and 2.26 miles. Have you ever had that problem? I can't figure out where the extra is coming from. I drove my car the same route and it comes up as 1.9 miles.0

RenPink I have been using MMW for two months now and have found that the variations in distance depend on exactly when you hit start and if you back track your route for any reason. For example if I press start at my door step or at the bottom of my driveway I will end up with two different distances. It is very sensitive that way which in a way is good because its a way to make every step you take count.0

If you have the map my run app you can choose "walk " or "run" on it. It syncs to MFP to add to your cardio calories. I've been using it for a while now, find it perks up a walk/ run as it's great to see how far I've gone or how many cals burned.0

I had only heard of Map My Run and signed up last night... then found Map My Walk when I was downloading apps on my new phone.
Does MMR show the calorie burn?? Supposedly MMW shows them. Can anyone verify this?0 -

The difference between the longest and shortest distance you've shown is... 200 feet. It's likely a combination of precise start and stop times and GPS Tracking error. Even my car's GPS is accurate to only eighteen feet at best.0 -
Both MMW and MMR show calorie burn. Runkeeper is also good0

Thanks for the clarifications everyone0

If you loose your signal on your phone, you loose the satelite and that plays a part of the variances in distance as well.0

i use map my fitness instead of map my walk. it's very useful, except that inside larger stores or gyms, it won't show distance as the insides aren't listed on a GPS, which is how it logs distance. same with any of the "map my" apps. but overall handy for showing time, distance and a cool little map of your route.0

One of these days I will really have to break down and get a smartphone. Too many cool apps!!! This is one I would definitely love to have.0

I have map my ride but switched to map my fitness because you can use it for all of your activities, biking, walking, gym workouts etc. I also have it linked to my fitness pal so all of my workouts automatically get logged into myfitnesspal. I love it...all of the map my XXXX apps are great.0

What do you suggest using if you do interval walk/runs? MapMyWalk or MapMyRun? or MapMyFitness is it called? I have a fitbitone...if I sync one of these apps to MFP--will it override what my fitbit does??0
