Tattoos & Weightloss

So I want to get a tattoo to celebrate my 18th today, problem is I'm not sure if now is the time to get it.
I'm trying to lose about 25lbs and the tattoo I want is a small heart that would be done on my hipbone.
Can anyone tell me if it will stretch or shrink(?) and would it be better for me to wait until I've lost the weight first?

25lbs probably won't make a different in the tattoo depending on where you carry your weight. I would just ask the tattoo artist, they probably know a thing or two about it.0

I don't think a 25 lb loss would obscure that tattoo. Especially if it is a small one. I have two on my arm and one on my chest and they look the same... I just look a little smaller.0

Ask the artist. Also, if pregnancy is something that you think might be in the cards for you someday, remember that the entire abominable area is going to stretch.0

You should also consider placement for later in life, in case you want to have kids.0

I had a small heart tattoo in that area and after losing about 30 lbs it changed angles, instead of straight up it titled a bit, loss of belly fat.0

If it's a concern you have, why not wait until after you lose the 25 pounds? It could help motivate you to get the weight off, and be a nice gift to yourself for accomplishing your goals.0

Maybe do it as a reward for your accomplishment? That's what I have planned for my sleeve, because I'm heavier and don't want to risk too much warp to the design.
I have a lot of ink currently and haven't had too many issues with warping/shrinking/stretching what have you...but I also don't have any ink on the spots of my body that show weight the most: i.e. my stomach, hips, ribs, etc. Its definitely something to consider...especially since it's permanent, and like other posters have said, if you have kids one day...that ink will be shot to hell at that point anyway.
So consider the *why* of your wanted placement. In the end, it's your body. You can always get touch ups if things warp a bit. Is it worth it to you?0 -
I got a large side piece from boob to hip, and then lost 40lbs. It has no noticeable difference at all, honestly. I also have another one on my other hip that was there when I was almost 70bs heavier, and its just a little bit smaller. When I talked to my artist about it, she told me that it would only be a problem if I was planning on getting bigger, otherwise it would be fine. Do it when you are comfortable.
Edit: The biggest thing that i've noticed is when she was doing my second round of color for my rib piece after the 40lbs down, the stretch marks were very angry and flared up for a couple days because she was stabbing them. But they have calmed down since then. I don't notice them anymore.0 -
I wouldn't think 25lbs would make much of a difference. I have lost 25(although with a lot more to go) and I haven't noticed a change in any of my tattoos, but I don't have any near the waist/hips. I have been waiting for that until I am done losing weight (I am already done having kids.)0

Yeah it certainly will shrink/stretch/fade over time. That's something you should accept if you plan on getting a tattoo.0
