Movies that should have had a sequel, but didn't get one?

this thread is just for fun.

i would say that The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension should have had a sequel, just to see how trippy it would have been.

in contrast, the story behind Highlander was ruined by Highlander 2, so it never should have had a sequel.

    The Golden Compass

    I'm still mad about that...

ETA: I heard a rumor that they intended to have a sequel, but didn't have enough funds. By the time someone was going to sponsor the film, the original actors were too old.

    The Big Lebowski.

sequel should have been called The Bigger Lebowski 2. (and should have been rated NC-17).

I hate to be the voice of dissent. But none.
I can't think of one movie that didn't have a sequel that should have.

Most movies that DO have sequels also should not have them.

Is this a thread where if I post someone below me is going to have say whether or not they'd do me? Otherwise I'd say A-Team and second the Strange Brew,

Oculus........ the set up for that story, haunted mirror and bizarre violent deaths is something that could make a whole series, not just a sequel. i.e. different characters, different time periods, different story line, but the same general theme, i.e. violent deaths because someone was possessed/had their perceptions of reality twisted by whatever it is in the mirror

also, it showed that the mirror had been damaged, but the characters in the film couldn't damage it. That IMO is a huge loose thread that could become very important in sequels... i.e. figuring out how it got damaged and in the final film in the sequence, actually having a successful plan to destroy it.

Maybe they will do that, I mean it was only released this year. But after watching it, I really felt like there could be and should be a lot more to the story.

Yeah I heard the same. It didn't end up doing well enough in the box office in north america. It did better in the UK. Really sad, I liked the movie and I LOVED the books.
