What is it with personal trainers???

We see so many ppl around us losing weight all the time (I know I do. If I dont, I intentionally look for them everywhere for inspiration, especially in mfp success story section). And one thing I noticed is that whoever works with a personal trainer, always always has great results! even though they do the same thing; work out 5-6 X/wk - cardio and strength sessions, watch cals, eat healthy, etc. But somehow they always lose constantly, are less likely to cheat on their diets, are less likely to give up, are less likely to hit plateaus, look great, lose in the right places, and have a toned look. I was just wondering what is it with working out with a trainer?
Is it just the extra motivation?
Or their workouts are different?
Or is it just because we work harder when working with them?
What is it? Or is it even like that (maybe I am just thinking it happens, I dont know)
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated because I have never worked with a trainer but am kind of thinking if it is even worth it before I invest in it (since they are kind of expensive).

Trainers know a lot of workouts that most people don't. They come up with a workout routine based on what your body needs and your fitness goals.
I worked out with a trainer for a while, and our workouts were some of the most difficult I have ever done, but I saw results.
I pushed myself harder than I normally would because I wanted to do well, and impress my trainer.
When you have a trainer, you have someone else on your journey with you. They're keeping tabs on you. That extra "pressure" pushes you to do well.
I highly recommend personal training sessions, even if you only do a few. They're definitely worth it, and you can continue to do the exercises they teach you even after you're done training with them.0 -
Accountability. I have to show up, I have to work my hardest, etc.0

I have also worked out with a personal trainer and saw results quickly. I think you hold yourself more accountable because you don't want to disappoint them and you are paying for their services so you want you money's worth. Also, my trainer did group training so it was sort of like a social gathering of people trying to do the same thing much like this site, and that was motivation to have a group of people in your shoes along the journey with you. The people from my session exchanged healthy recipes and became friends.
Also most personal trainers know the importance of strength training and muscle building in the relation to losing weight and burning calories. We did some cardio but a lot of strength training so not only do you lose lbs but your body is also firmer and tighter.0 -

I too used a personal trainer but was not very happy in the end. It may have been because I was not able to lose weight. Infact I gained weight- 17 lbs to be precise. I was careful with my diet, I was following WW at the time. I only saw the scale go up so I was disappointed. I did learn new techniques and did develop more muscle (I only know that because at the end of the year I was stronger and able to do exercises that I couldn't do earlier!). Unfortunately it was an expensive lesson for me.
What I am doing on EA Sports 2 with the Wii I did with my personal trainer. Just my two cents.0 -
thank you kkmama, your answer was very helpful and realistic.0
