50lbs Down - Round 2

Hi Everyone,

Just want to start off by saying I'm 50lbs down since January 2013. It has been a long, but tremendously educational experience for me as I learned how to undo the unhealthy habits I had formed in the first half of my life. I started my weight at 253lbs and am now at 203lbs (5'9.75" / 37 yr Male). I counted calories religiously, buying food scales and measuring cups, and was honest as possible day in and day out. I have truly learned what healthy portions are. I work out at the local YMCA for 1.5hrs 4x a week doing 30min Cardio and an hour of weight training.

The reason I am posting on here is because I have about 13 more lbs I would like to lose to get to my ideal weight of 190lbs which I think is going to be my healthy weight even though BMI scales suggest 170. (If I got down to 170, I don't think I would look healthy). I can tell I'm starting to plateau with the weight loss with my usual routine and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions in the last leg of weight loss. I know as long as I eat at a deficit, I'll lose, but lately it hasn't felt that way. July 4th holiday was no help where I put on a couple of lbs on vacation.

I was thinking about trying to stick to my macros a little more religiuosly as well as consume more water. I am also considering a protein shake to hit my macros as well as creatine to help me burn more calories/rep. What do you guys suggest?

I'm in about the same boat as you. I'm 50 pounds down, with about 20 more to go to my personal goal, and 30 to a technically "normal" BMI.

I'm gonna tell you: I've gotten kind of tired of being in a calorie deficit. I know I have a ways to go, but it's kind of exhausting.

What I did recently was take the month of June off - I didn't deliberately eat at maintenance, but I let go of tracking, went on some vacations where I ate more liberally, etc. I had some gains and losses, and I ended June about where I ended May. So, in other words, maintenance.

Then, a week ago, I started P90X3 and switched over to TDEE method of calorie counting. I'm getting the same total number of weekly calories, roughly, but instead of being different every day, and worrying about whether I'm overestimating calories burns for this exercise or that exercise, I just eat the same (1990) every day, or as close to it as I can manage. One day this weekend I went out to eat w/ the hubs and "borrowed" calories from a different day, but other than that I stayed the same each day.

I have also started paying a lot more attention to my macros, esp protein since I am going to need it for my workouts.

I'm not a beachbody coach or anything, but if you are getting bored and looking to shake things up, you might try some kind of fitness program like that.

Congrats on your success so far!
  • Hi - I am about about 30 lbs in towards my 100 lb weight loss goal. I was always thin, but in my 20s gained weight but was able to quickly take off 60 lbs. The problem was I gained it back through my early 30s with a return to bad habits, having kids, etc... now, I have found that the weight does not come off as quickly a month shy of 37! Disclaimer - I actually am a BeachBody coach. I struggled a lot at the end of last year trying to get off the ground, joined one of their accountability groups early this year and it all clicked so I decided to start helping others and I am addicted! I love it so much and I have such an a extra push to remain accountable, etc... The one program I did want to point out is brand new - it is called the 3 day refresh.. protein shakes, fiber sweeps and 3 days of super clean eating and shakeology. I actually am starting a group on the 21st for this... they are actually doing the 30 day refresh with the 30 days shakeology. The women on my team that tried have lost around 5-7 lbs, I have not known any men to do it yet to give you first hand info on it, but please let me know if you would be interested in it at all. I actually have just hit a plateau and plan on doing it this weekend to see if I can push through. I just started a FB page https://www.facebook.com/EatCleanandBeMerry - please feel free to like and message me if you want any further info. Good luck to you!!
