breast feeding mothers

I have a neice that is breast feeding and is really ready to start loosing some weight. Baby is 3 months old. I have read no less than 2,000 calories to maintain good milk producion. Anyone have any suggestions from their own experiences?

It's going to depend on her personal stats, whether she is nursing full time, how much she has to lose, etc. There's no one general calorie amount that is going to apply to everyone.0

I know everyone is different and needs different calorie intake etc. I was just hoping to get some insight from other mothers that have lost weight while breast feeding. Does MFP have options to put in that someone is breastfeeding?0

For myself, I use MFP goal... Than I search breastfeeding which gives me an additional 500 calories, never had a problem. That may or may not put you over 2000 calories depending on where your currently sitting, and your activity level. You can safetly lose weight, but if your baby is under 6 months, no more than 1lbs a week, and watch your your babies diaper out puts for signs of milk decreasing, and if you feel like your hungry, drink water, if that doesn't cut it, EAT.

The average woman burns 670 extra, so eating 500 plus maintenance is recommended by a lot of resources as way to achieve slow and steady weight loss.

2000 is probably a good number, but she may be able to eat even more0 -
