My older brother recently recommended I use herbalife for losing weight, but he has not been fat a day in his life and certainly never had to lose 90+ pounds. So I thought it would be better to get feedback from people a little closer to my personal situation.
I don't really know much about it and was wondering if anyone on here has tried it for weight loss and what your results/thoughts are on the product? Would you recommend it as a weight loss aid and why?

herbalife (among weight watchers and a few others) are essentially diet plans that put you in a calorie deficit
are they effective for weight loss? yes
are they effective for teaching proper nutrition? no
will the weight loss last after stopping the plan? more than likely not
finding your own way to cut back on your food intake is a much better option0 -
I have used herbalife, and I enjoyed it. however, it's very easy to get caught up with all the products they have...I started out with just shakes and one supplement, then was told the best way to continue was with this mountain of supplements. lots of $$$. So, I personally would say it's up to you. If you think the shakes and maybe one supplement would help you jumpstart things, get you to where you are used to feeling full on smaller portions, etc. Go for it. They taste pretty yummy! But I wouldn't suggest anything like that as a lifestyle change. You have to learn to love the right foods too, and learn to eat better portions (this is still where I struggle as well! I eat great all day, then at night want to go on a rampage lol).

You can do the herbalife, follow it to a T along with all the recommendations of how to eat and such and be successful losing weight. When you get to your goal weight then what? Your bank account will be much lighter.
OR...
You can eat at a deficit and move more. Follow that to a T and you will be successful losing weight. Once you get to your goal weight you are then set up for success for the rest of your life by eating at a maintenance. Your bank account will be much fuller as well.0 -

First find out your body type. There are three body types: Ectomorph/Mesomorph/Endomorph. Find out which body type you fall under and go from there.0

Endomorphs & Ecto's have slow metabolisms while Meso's fast metabolisms are constantly moving which Burns more calories so they can pretty much eat anything and still maintain low body fat percentage so you can't sit there and Tell me that body types don't matter when dieting/building muscle/shredding fat come in to play.Endo's calorie deficit is a lot lower than a Meso's body type calorie deficit intake. Know your BODY TYPE is very important!0 -

The founder of Herbalife, who had a 9th grade level education, was sued by the FDA over false health claims and the schemes used to sell them. A problem he dealt with by going on a 4 day drinking binge, causing the greatest of all medical issues, death.
So, totally legit.
(there are so many duplicate threads/sales pitches on this topic I can just copy/paste something I typed a few hours ago)
This is exactly what I came here to say. They were sued because they're basically a pyramid scheme, and also because of the dubious health claims. There were also allegations that some people had liver problems that may have been linked to Herbalife, but the scientific studies surrounding that are inconclusive. Either way, not a product I would get involved with.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone! This gave me a sense regarding herbalife and it was more or less what I expected.
I don't think anything can really replace just moving towards a healthier lifestyle. I think I'm going to stick to eating less junk and a more balanced diet.0
