Heart rate monitor

Just looking for some tips on buying my first one so I can accurately count calories burnt during exercise. Just by reading reviews online I'm not sure which one I should be looking at ... and I don't want to shell out 400$ just for a decent one.

I usually work on an elliptical, walk, lift weights.

Thanks everyone.

It took me about an hour, but I did find a reliable company in Canada that sells Polar watches. I think I will be ordering one tonight.
